I just realized they changed their photo hosting policy and now there will be a fee if you want to hotlink pics. I use(d) them, but now I'm looking for another photo hosting site. Just a heads up to any one else who might have dozens of pics out there that are now gone.

Let me know what you find. I had a few wiped myself from the bucket. $399.00 is a little greedy I think.

PBucket is stirring up a lot of folks.

Register a domain name of your liking (www.Hover.com) and pay for web site hosing (www.1and1.com/web-hosting). Done.

Completely under your control as long as you wish.

If you don't care about ownership of the image rights, then http://imgur.com/ is a good place. I use it to host my images of jeep trips and such and don't have any issues with linking the images. The down side is that any image hosted there is considered public domain once you post them there. I do like the capability of sizing the images right on their site as well.

It's also free.

Check out google. Been using them for years since the last time photobucket, or whomever it was, did the same thing. I also host all mine on the company site as well, but Google makes editing very easy. And their hosting has been AWESOME. Much better than say, imgur or even FB since they won't change the URL after a certain amount of time.

That is a settings matter. You just need to make sure that the photo is set to public and then it's just a simple right click, then 'save image location' and then you can paste anywhere.

It’s better to upload them. If they get deleted on a host they disappear from here making the thread useless.

Just sayin’

Thanks Aaron!!!!!!!!!

Pleased to help, happy trails!

EDIT: Be careful when organizing your photos on any site. Moving items into different albums will always change their url, no matter the site. The URL will also change with any renaming that you do. These have all bit me in the butt before with older threads. As Chris has stated, uploading them to each site you have a thread going will ensure that the photos stay up in that specific thread for as long as the forum and thread are around. Takes a bunch more time, and even I'd admit I don't do it, but that solves any future conflicts.

Yeah, it’s a shame this software doesn’t automatically resize all photos. The technique exists but I’m not aware of whether or not can be included in this release. Maybe something Jim can look into to make everyone’s life a bit easier.

Everyone but Jim that is! :D

That's roight. :)

You (and any other member) are very welcome to research any new web technology that could make our forum "more-better".

I accepted the reigns from you as the admin and with the help of the host some tech issues have been sorted and the forum is clicking along. At some point (years I'd gander), a major change will be needed and when that happens mobile will become more friendly with the forum.

In the meantime, if anyone has an itch they wish to have scratched/removed, I'm open to change to get it removed and will let you/anyone lay out the steps to get it sorted.

While photo resizing isn't a built-in feature, a quick web search shows several sites with the capability to resize [edit - though also there's the e-mail-it-to-yourself method of resizing]:

Agreed resizing can be done easy but still seems to be a barrier for many people.

It's always been that way :frown:

Maybe I’ll see up hosting for the forum on one of my accounts.

Yes, please do!

IMO most change hinges on having an RSVP system for events.

What you have here works and works well. If we can have that AND other bennies - great! Cue the debate.

Just sayin’True, I admit, I get lazy and sometimes linking is one less step than resizing.

Yikes Jim, I was referring to hosting images with a resizing script!

If we have a MySQL pro on here that can make an importer to codoforum software I’d be interested in considering changing software. Codoforum is installed on 4x4colorado.com which is inactive.

I second this! Google works great as long as your privacy settings are open.

I don't use a hosting site, I probably should though as some day my pc
memory will suffer, I just use the program on my pc.

You would always want to keep your original (and perhaps edited) versions on your PC (and your backups). The hosting site is only for "the copy" that is visible to the world.

With mechanical drive storage costs that have plummeted, you won't be broken, financially, for space to keep all originals (even if you don't choose to keep all originals).
