I have never driven Bunce School road from Camp Dick all the way up, I've only done the northern part by Ironclads. I'm hoping to take an afternoon or maybe a whole day off and drive Bunce and Johnny Park / Pierson south with my trailer, mostly just for more trail time towing it. It's a small trailer, and on most trails that are wide I have no problems passing people.
So I'm watching videos on Bunce and found this one from TOR that says it's only wide enough for one vehicle and that it's closed on the south (camp dick?) end and is an in-and-out trail. IDK if I'm understanding it correctly... Are either of those accurate? The end I've been on was easy, wide and full of campsites and ATVs, but I didn't have any trouble passing anyone. We entered by the school and exited about a mile down on another easy road that went east back to the highway, I didn't continue down Bunce to Camp Dick but always thought you could until I read this. Thanks!!
"Published on May 31, 2017Bunce School Road is an extremely busy/trafficked trail with ATV, Side by Sides and motorbikes. ATV rentals are in the parking lot as you enter Bunce School Road, however this is a good spot to air down. If you cannot find a spot to park, drive in about 1000+ feet and there are areas to pull in and air down. Now it’s time to get on the trail, the road is only wide enough for one vehicle and you will most likely have to find a place to pull off to upcoming traffic. Much of the southern part of the trail passes through private property and it is very well marked with unusual signage, so make sure you stay on the main trail until you are sure you are on public land. There are several switchbacks on the Southside and these are the rockiest climbs on the trail. This is a good trail for those new to off-roading as well as experienced off roaders. Most of the trail is easy with a few moderate spots with rocks and mud holes. We did run into some snow, but nothing to stop you from getting through. Overall this is a great trail that is close to town. Bunce School Road has most of its dispersed camp sites at the northeast end of the road, but campsites exist all along it. Great areas to have lunch and hike around. The trail is permanently closed at the south end of the trailhead and is an out and back trail. It is a wonderful place to check your vehicle's capabilities. "
