Mahindra still makes the cj3b (as they have the overseas patent) as well as a number of other 'jeepneys' etc. Unfortunately, it looks like they are sticking with the dog of a 2.5L turbo diesel. There could be some cool diesel options - this just isn't it. I can't see something with a max speed of 50mph making much sales in the US. Heck, the original willys L and F134 4cyl options puts out a bit more hp and drives about the same. The 5 speed will certainly help with the diesel staying in its narrow power band. Keeping the tires at 30-31" (or less) and its probably geared reasonably low, will help - but most of us want something a bit bigger. Mistubishi also produces some cj3b look-a-likes overseas and runs an underpowered 4cyl diesel - wonder if its the same one.

EDIT: looks like Mitsubishi is using a slightly bigger 4cyl diesel at 162 cubic inches (2.7L) direct injection that puts out 99hp and 163ft-lbs. That one does 0-60mph in 15.6 seconds. The Mitsu is kind of a dog for anything other than a stock set-up. The Mahindra is going to be less of a performer I would guess.http://www.automobile-catalog.com/car/1998/2019875/mitsubishi_jeep_j55_canvas_top.html

Has he shared any thoughts on it thus far?

Here are some quotes from his posts: I belive his is a Thar model as opposed to a Roxor model but both are very similar

Power is fine in it. Very torquey. Feels like a larger FHead. Same kinda snorty low end feel. In high it will crawl around with ease without touching the throttle.
It’s WAY longer (than a cj5 sic) (96” WB). Think an ecj5 front end with an LJ tub. ECJ5 width, but much more length in the tub.
Ride is what I assume a YJ spring equipped early 6 would feel like. It does have a front sway bar.
it’s a 5 speed

Its truly sold as a ATV and depending on state, may or may not be licensed for driving on public roads. Of course, it bigger than many ATVs and thus may or may not qualify for maximum width requirements in some ATV areas. It has no windshield. For those of us in the early cj5 crowd - hoping it will provide a new opportunity to get new aftermarket parts for replacement/swaps/build etc. Replace the front end with a classic cj nose and put it on 33s (think it comes on 31s), and it would be cool trail rig i think. At the same time, I don't know if the 4cyl is 'zippy' compared to the side-by-side ATV crowd for rallying around, and thus it might be a bit limited in demand for more of a torquey crawling rig.

Some legal update - Mahindra has won the court battle (at least for now):
https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/technology/auto/mahindra-wins-ipr-case-against-fiat-chrysler-in-us-can-now-import-roxor-suv-3230031.html

Its kind of an interesting case as FCA wants to protect their ownership rights of Jeep (as it was passed through all its predecessor owners like Willys, Kaiser, AMC, Chrysler, Daimler and now FCA) - but Mahindra has rights from the early Willys days. Honestly, I don't think Mahindra sales will take much away from FCA as the the Roxor isn't really a competitor of current Jeep vehicles like the JL - it competes more with side by sides and the like. But I think control over the name and use of jeep like imagery is more the concern. Being able to control the image and marketing of the jeep imagery is probably more valuable than anything else.

Some legal update - Mahindra has won the court battle (at least for now):

some outlets are now reporting that the final court decision has not been made - the initial decision that was reported was for an intermediary decision regard under what license agreement the court case would be heard (turns out its an agreement from 2009). hmmm....

Roxor has moved into the off-road trailer segment....pretty pricey in IMHO, but there does seem to be a market for this with the overlanding focus and trailer tents etc...

You said "pretty pricey", and I thought "sure, $2500". I should have applied the standard formula of "double it and add 10" instead! That's a pretty expensive trailer. There are more affordable options (https://www.spacetrailers.com/product/6500-highrider/), but lower payload. That Roxor trailer does look nice.

Once you are over $1k for a trailer - its all too expensive for me....I am looking for a raft trailer, and the nice new ones are around $2k (hell, I could buy a jeep hauler for that - although I couldn't pull it with the Taco). I have a little bigger oar rig than the standard float/fishing rigs here in Colo - so a homebuilt HF trailer won't quite cut-it, but I am thinking $500 max. Back in college when my DD was a CJ7 and I needed a way to carry my kayaks etc around - I bought a little haulin 4x8 flatbed trailer from a farmer up around Longmont for like $100 - it wasn't titled. Got a homebuilt title, redid the wheel bearings, new plywood deck and I built some side and end rails for it as well (made it easier to put coolers and other gear). After a couple years I used to move to TX for a bit (it withstood a nice bump in the rear end from a semi at a red-light in Amarillo from a sleepy driver) and ended up selling it (after I sold the CJ7) to a friend for like $50 (which was probably a steal - but I think I was literally moving out of town the next day and didn't want to take it with me). Today that thing would sell for $500! Whatever happened to cheap little trailers?

There are some project types that are out there depending on the size and how much you want to work on it. They claim this is about 5 1/2 x 10 with title, new lights and tires: https://denver.craigslist.org/tro/d/boulder-tilt-trailer-new-price/6972801140.html

If the articles didn't cover this, I understand that the history of the Indians getting the rights and plans to build this was during WWII, the US gave that all to Britain, and they passed it along to their Indian colonies for cheap production. They've been building them ever since. But like he axe that Abe owed, its had the handle replaced 4 times and the head twice...

thanks...deck is too small as is. Thinking may have to find a 10-12' utility trailer with side rails and build the raft deck over top if the rails. Would also create usable cargo space underneath the deck on the trailer floor.
