I'm needing to add a winch mounting plate on my taco. I was thinking of going overkill and throwing on a 10k. I'm in no big rush but would rather support somebody on here instead of a shop.

PM me or can email if prefer. Rbstafford@gmail.com
Thanks in advance, ryan

Bummer to hear about your disdain for shops. If you change your mind, maybe we can help: www.bruckerbrothersltd.com

Rough day Aaron?

Supporting fabricators who are FR4x4 members is considered disdain now? :frown:

Actually it is another GREAT day. Aren't they all?

The way I read the post ("would rather support somebody on here instead of a shop") is that he is looking for a private individual or someone willing to do a side job. NOT a local shop. This lead me to believe he dislikes working with shops for some reason or another. And all I simply asked that if he changes his mind, or would be willing to give another a try, that he look us up.

If you want it done there are a lot of welders out there.
If you want it done right the first time call Aaron...

I do fab work but usually only for myself. The one thing I would have to say is that when it comes to things that really matter I won't do work for others that I will do for myself. As don't want to be liable for someone else's safety. I am confident in my work, but would steer you to someone who does it for a living. I would want to be sure that the winch bumper is solid.

Bummer to hear about your disdain for shops.

Disdain is the offensive word Aaron. In your response you use dislike, two very different words.

Maybe I’m out of touch but this group once supported member skills without anyone being accused of having “disdain” for another. (http://www.frontrange4x4.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?82-Member-Skills) You know, helping each other out.

In my time wheeling and owning 3 trucks I primarily used individual fabricators rather than shops. I didn’t do this out of disdain but rather because I liked working with people I wheeled with, two went on to start their own fabricating business. That’s pretty cool.

I’ll step back out because seeing words like disdain & yahoo in replies bothers me, makes this forum sound like so many others where common courtesies have gone by the wayside.

I think you are reading way too much into it.

My take - I don't have much concern for disdain. If Ryan has it, that's his feeling. It seems the OP has been edited to remove the word - again - no issue.

I do take pause at Sam's calling of the OP (as I take it) a yahoo - which often is considered (at least by me in this context) as not-positive. I don't know if Sam had that intent. Sam, do you care to jump in?

Bottom line, yes, our group is vastly friendly and supportive of each other. I find some of this thread a curiosity. No big "ill" but perhaps a ripple on the smooth pond.

Hi Ryan, do you already have a solid bumper that you are wanting to add a plate onto? or a receiver mount setup? Maybe toss in a pic of your current setup. I'd be happy to help if i can.

:lmao: Semantics.

I'd buy a premade plate or bumper and save yourself some time and money, or go to a shop and get something unique but likely pay more. The last few "experts" I've hired have been Dunning-Kruger experts and have just made things worse, wasted my time and money. I'm all DIY or going to a shop / retailer. The cheap comes out expensive, and anyone who tells you they're an expert is probably an ignoramus.

Wow Chris . I simply stated that I was bummed to hear that your son would not consider using a shop, and that if he were to change his mind, me and my company would be happy to help him out. And somehow you took this as me attacking him. I did NOT mean for that to be the case as I was trying to be helpful and offer another alternative if he couldn't find what he needed.

I used my words wisely. And I have never been taught that this word was offensive. Disdain as Webster defines it, means: verb. consider to be unworthy of one's consideration.

To me, the use of this word fit perfectly, as he seems unwilling to consider using a shop.Note, I didn't ever use the word HATE. And seeing anyone who is unwilling to use a whole group of shops really saddens me. Hence why I said it "bummed" me out.

Best of luck to the OP and to you Chris!

EDIT: I have only met Sam once I believe, but have dealt with him for many years now on many different forums. But pretty sure he doesn't hold any negativity towards you or anyone. If I were to take a guess at his "yahoo" comment, it looks like it got auto-corrected to that from ya'll.

First of all one comment tuned a mole hill into a mountain. I am not opposed to shops, I prefer them in many aspects but was trying to open the door for the "small guy". Enough with the back and forth stuff guys, we are not in preschool anymore. Attached is what I'm working with, I was looking and hoping to just add on the winch plate. The bumper is mounted via the front body mounts so it's quite stout. I will man up first if need be and say that if my wording was in anyway disrespectful or offensive I'll shoulder the burden.

That looks very stout and some one should have no problem welding in a winch plate. Easy Peasy for a guy with the right tools.

Where on that bumper are thinking of mounting the plate? Maybe reshaping/removing the front shield and fitting it under the light bar with the fairlead sticking out through the bumper?

there are pics w/measurements, maybe it would fit or make an inexpensive raw material... hth
