Anyone happen to know how early I can get an emissions test done? Specifically an older diesel? I will need one to renew my plates in July and was hoping I might be able to get the test now. I would even be willing to register it early as well.

Pretty sure it is 30 days when selling a vehicle but I am not sure about a renewal.

A long time ago, a county clerk told me the E-Test certification was good for 120 days. So I guess the best answer I can give is to call your County's Dept. of Revenue.

Boulder country clerks told me my emissions is due for my Corvette in September, but my registration won’t be due until May 2019. She said to just get it tested in sep and bring the certificate in May when registering..... that’s 7 months early! Not sure if she was correct or not but that’s what she told me ;)
My 2017 registration expired in Sep but I forgot about it since the vette sat in my garage until a few days ago.... so I went to register it on Monday and the above is what I was told.....

Thanks for the replies all. I called our local diesel emissions shop and they were closed this week. Then I called the DMV/Cleck and Recorder and sat on hold for way too long. Guess I will get the answer on Monday when the test center reopens as I don't have the patience to sit on hold and I have gotten a different answer for everyone I talk.

In thinking about it, the clerk who told me 120 days, circled soem print on the form that said "Valid for 120 days." The forms have changed since then.

Have you received your annual registration notice? If so you can get the test and register it as soon as you get it. They will still issue your tag for the 2019. Your July sticker does not change. Otherwise, I'd give registration a call, tell them you will be out of the country in July and need to register early. They will probably say get the test and come into the office. I did my yesterday, emission test and then to get Colorado plates on my Jeep in the Ken Carly facilities and it took a total of 1 hr 15 minutes for both locations.
