I didn't see any runs for this weekend yet. I want to get out somewhere. Where are we going this weekend?

Look'n to scratch the itch too. What's the obstacle on Switzerland?

Fellas, I did post something about a possible Red Elephant Hill run this weekend.

Jim, no obstacles on Switzerland trail.... however the Cliffhanger 2.0 spur off the far northern end is fun (but very short). My son and I did this on Sunday and it was wet and we needed lockers to get up the difficult parts!

Jim, Pennsylvania Gulch is off Switzerland and much more interesting.

How about Pickle Gulch on Sat?

Jim

oooh - that'd sway me from Red Elephant or Cliffhanger 2. A yet to travel trail.

I would not be opposed to Pickle Gulch either, although I have done it a couple times in the Ram and once in the Jeep —- it’s a lot closer to get to and my son hasn’t done it yet...... however Red Elephant would probably be a full day where this would be more like 3 or 4 hours. I’m up for whatever everyone else decides ;-)

My son told me he would prefer Pickle Gulch, so What time do y’all wanna start?

Awesome! :thumb: I like 10:00 to give people from further away time to get there, but I'm open.

Is this the trailhead?

close, you'll see a sign there for Pickle Gulch with an arrow for direction. Follow it past the campground until you reach the end; there is a gate on your left that cuts off the last part of what google shows as the road, that is actually the way to the day use area. Next to the gate is a dirt road going into the woods, that's us. 39.843318, -105.527997

Is the day use area the place for a group picnic? I see two open areas - could you give Lat/Lon for the day use area? I keep rolling in my brain a "Pickle Party" sometime in the late summer (but before fall cleanup) - after the Anniversary Run - which now is pushed into Summer.

FWIW, I just found a run report on all trails from 2 days ago that says "about 3 miles in there was still a 4 ft drift across the road..."

Jim

So, what you're saying is...... bring a shovel, and maybe chains, to enjoy some bashing!!!!!

Something like that, yeah. I don't have chains, so I guess I'll get to try out the winch if the drift is a problem.

I'm not worried, I think we'll have no issues getting thru any snow with the beasts that have signed up ;-)

I've got a shovel and winch but not even going to bring the chains..... the warm and wet weather most likely has dwindled the majority of the snow!

4ft... I'll bring my bumper. :steer:

Jim- the day use area is the one you're thinking of, we can walk there before the run. It's maybe 100 yards past the point I posted. Rising Suns used it for their cleanup run.

Dang it, I got a really long honey-do list on Saturday but I might go mess around up at Gross reservoir or another trail on Sunday if any one is interested.

I could be persuaded to go out Sunday too. Family wants to get out, but they can't go Saturday with me.
