anyone ever wheel in the Los Alamos area of NM? seems like there's lots of FS roads to explore near Bandolier. we're heading out Thursday to go down that way, just me and the wife, and camp somewhere with our new pop-up. found some sweet FS sites to camp near Los Alamos and a lot of roads on Google, just wondering if anyone has been down there.

we want to hike at Tent Rocks on Friday morning, so I was mapping it out on Google. again, just wondering if anyone has been on any of those roads in that area.

I have been to tent rocks. Really nice hike, but I bet its a scorcher this time of year. Its on native american land.
Been to Bandolier too. Hike up to the kiva if there.

yeah, we hiked Tent Rocks 6 years ago when my wife was pregnant with our son. we actually got his name from hiking the slot canyons. the weather should be pretty nice on Thursday...looks like upper 70s.

I've not been wheeling in that area, but a ways to the north around Taos has some real nice trails (Greenie Peak was a blast). At 11,000' it shouldn't be too hot.
Or, south of Albuquerque around Elephant Butte there is a large selection of trails (but it can get real hot down there).

so, we ended up changing our plans a bit. we got out of Salida later than we expected (rode our bikes on a longer trail than originally planned) and so we decided to camp near Ojo Caliente and make use of their healing pools on our tired legs. :)

there's lots of FS roads that go out into the sage brush and on to...who knows where. we found one on freecampsites.net and were pleasantly surprised to be the only people out there. picked a nice spot a ways off the road and had a quiet evening to ourselves. temps in the mid-60s over night with a little sprinkle of rain kept it cool but not cold. we will definitely use that area again!
