Gear?

On my 78 Bronco I found out that it was special ordered with limited slip rear with 3.00 gears (highway gears). I finished installing the 468 ci. and new C6 that I had built for torque to pull the trailer. So my question is will these gears hold up well for towing a 16ft trailer or do I need to swap them for something like 4:10s? Bronco is sitting on 35s and I know that the speedometer is off by about 7 miles/hr.

I am guessing between the 35s and a trailer - no matter what you have for an engine - you are going to be geared to0 high with 3.00. Again, just guessing from experience that you might get away with 3.73s if the the engine has enough power. Looking at a couple other numbers (not sure what your TC reduction is), but you'll have a crawl ratio around 20-25 - pretty low but maybe ok or manageable with the automatic c6. For hwy cruising (not sure what kind of set-up you are looking for?), but say 70mph - you'll be just over 2000rpm in 3rd (1:1). Again, its right at the bottom end of what seems reasonable (not including pulling a trailer), and if the engine is a low rpm monster it could work. I'd probably be looking to regear to 3.73s for all around driving or 4.10's if more off-road or heavy pulling is in order. Also, might depend on your engine: 3.73 might be good for a powerful engine that likes 1800-2400 rpm. 4.10s and a 3 speed c6 might push the rpms a bit high depending on your engine build.
