My 35” Trail Grapplers are probably 35-45% tread left and even aired down to 9-10pls they slip a lot in the snow and ice. So I read up in siping mud terrains and decided to hand sipe just the outer center lugs on my tires to see if I notice a difference. Luckily I have acreage here at 8500 feet that has some steep sections that I can wheel around and play .... which I do often!
The hand siping was just slicing those lugs perpendicularly with a razor .... some lugs took 3 some took 4 slices...took about an hour to do all tires, having to move the Jeep a couple times to get to every lug.

Unless I’m crazy I feel a big difference and the tires seem to grip significantly better on the steep snowy and icy sections. I’m probably going to leave as is, instead of siping the other center lugs but maybe I will at some point..... free mod that worked!

I've seen that done with a hot knife before.
