IDK if it's a good business idea, you can buy a membership or day pass to BFE or do the exact same thing for free all around it... someone thought Magic Mountain / Heritage Square were good ideas too.

"AreaBFE is a 320 acre recreational park for many different outdoor activities. In 2004 the park was purchased by a group of 6 owners. Over the years the owners have sold back to one partner and in 2016 that owner took over 100% of the park. Prior to 2004, Area BFE was more of a socioeconomic project to see if the offroad community cared enough to keep access to this private parcel of amazing off-road opportunity and at least cover the cost of taxes. We can look back and at the past and laugh at the failure, but that is the past and we are forging into the future. As of June 2018 Area BFE is closing its doors to the public to build out facilities and move to a membership-based and day rate OHV park." https://www.areabfe.com/about/

Sad to see this happening. Too many trails have been sold in the eastern part of the county to make offroading a worthwhile hobby. Wheeling East of the Mississippi usually means going to a private park (where you pay a fee for the privilege of driving on their overcrowded trails and buy their overpriced food and souvenirs). Little by little it's happening across the rest of the country. :frown:

What was that land before it was private? Was it public that was converted to private?

It's been closed since June.

It was state land bought like 15 years ago by a group of wheelers. Each in group slowly sold off to just a single owner.

The area does have some unique terrain so it may be able to sustain, especially if they host events.

Sadness.
Way too many wheeler think free is free.
If we want our trails "free" we need to put forth the effort.
