View Full Version : Lil Moab area "do-over"

Jackie

Is anyone interested in trying the planned "Quasi Anniversary" run at the Lil Moab area next weekend since so many of us bailed out of the run today? Warmer weather this week should help with eliminating most of the snow issues. I can do Saturday or Sunday (March 23 or 24).

I like the idea...unfortunately I am out of town the next two weekends, but hopefully there will be some interested souls.

Saturday is usually better for us. We can make Sunday work if there is overwhelming support for Sunday instead.

Sounds like we have 3 interested? Time for someone to post it to the calendar?

I'll post it up, but I can't lead the run. (I've never been there and I don't have a GPS or good map). I'd prefer that we meet somewhere in a town and go together to the trail head if that's doable. Would either of you be able to lead? Any ideas where and when we should meet?

Any ideas where and when we should meet?

The Circle-K or P-66 gas stations on the southwest corner of US-85 and C-470 worked well for us last time. Easy in/out for southbound travel. Should be central enough for folks.

I've only been to that trail once, for the anniversary run last year. Seems like it is a pretty straightforward trail and a straight shot out to the obstacle. I'm sure we can find our way without much trouble.

I led one of the groups last year and would be glad to do so again. Coming from Evergreen, there are several routes you can take so several different places to meet as well. Any plan on preferrred route?

Jackie

I'm open to suggestions on the meeting place Chris. Are you coming from Evergreen as well? Trent is coming from Broomfield, and Aaron from the Springs. If you want to lead that would be great!

What time is a good time for everyone to meet. 9? 10?

9 is pretty early for the drive from Broomfield. 10 is good. It's 2+ hours to get to the trailhead from my house.

10am is good. I'll post it tomorrow unless one of you beats me to it. (Be my guest)!

I'm open to suggestions on the meeting place

I wasn't sure if you would come down 70 or take the 73/285/126(or 83) route that is popular from the Conifer area. If coming down 70, the 85/470 area is good, the other route, Deckers would be the place. I am in the Castle Rock vicinity so would prefer to meet in Sedalia, Deckers, or at the trailhead.

There should be some good melting this week.

Awesome. You'll enjoy the little Moab obstacle. Lines of all difficulties available for playing.

Jackie, you posted to meet at Sedalia at 10 AM. I think that'll make the run start at 11 or later. Sedalia is still a long drive from the trailhead. You probably want to revise your gas station meet up to be closer to 9:15.

We'll likely just meet at the trailhead at 10, or whatever time we all agree on.

FWIW

GPS track log data - Sedalia to Trailhead - 1 hour flat

TO the trail: 8:35a - 9:38a
FROM the trail: 5:02pm - 6:01pm

I used the Google recommended route that heads west from Sprucewood as it was listed as a few minutes shorter.

later works better for me, I'd be happy with an 11am at the trailhead, but I'll do whatever

My interpretation is the group that is meeting at 10am in Sedalia will get to the trailhead at about 11am...

OK - I'm confused now because of the above responses. How about we compromise with a meeting time at the Sedalia gas station at 9:15 and leave for trailhead no later than 9:30. That puts us at the trailhead by 10:30ish.

I'll change the planned trail post now.

It appears it was me who was confused all along. When you asked a couple days ago about meeting times, I thought we were talking trail-head, not Sedalia. When I saw the calendar entry with the 10 am meeting in Sedalia, I was very confused. My post this morning was mostly to confirm what time we were all referring to so I don't show up at the trail an hour early or late. I don't think it matters to us whether the trail head meeting time is 10 am or 11 am, as long as I know what time we all agreed on.

Apologies if I took this off the rails. That was not my intent.

^^ No Worries Trent. I changed the meet-up in Sedalia to 9:15-9:30, arriving trailhead @ 10:30ish.

The RSVP page now shows 3 "yes" and 1 maybe. I hope all the folks that commented previously RSVP soon. If I don't see their responses by tonight, I'll send private messages.

I am down to a maybe- last night I took off the top and doors for the season and while I was moving the Jeep around I restarted the engine 3x and each time the starter got weaker. I checked and the last time I rebuilt it was 2014, so I ordered a brush set and some cleaner. I'm hoping they'll be here tommorow and I'll be able to wrap it up quickly...

here's how to rebuild your starter, it's super easy and cheap, so is an alternator if you don't have to do the bearings:

Getaklu did not RSVP yet. I assume he is still coming since he volunteered to lead. Should be a fun day.

I'm bringing a friend and his JK, so count me as two Jeeps.

My adult daughter (coming from Longmont) will be riding with me. She plans on driving her own car to to meet up with us in Sedalia.

Advise needed: Should she leave her RAV4 in Sedalia some place or will she be able to drive to and leave it at the trailhead? Any advise? If neither is a good idea, she'll leave it at my house in Evergreen and just ride with me the whole way.

Thanks! This is the first time she's coming with me on a run, so I don't want a bad experience that could involve her innocent vehicle!

There is plenty of good parking at the trailhead if desired. I would also think there is plenty of parking in Sedalia just west (or south) of the 1 block main town by the railroad tracks.

I'm going to change my mind as well. My mom is up from OK, and I was hoping she wanted to go but she's averse to this cold.

Pretty sure they got a few inches of snow last night. The paved stuff looks (http://www.utepasscams.com/highway-24-baldwin-st-webcam.html) fine, but I'll bet there's a good bit on the trail still.

Hopefully next time. I mean it should only get drier from here!

`sounds like an OffTrak delivery.

Day late delivery and wildly goofy tracking status (often it'll say heading back to California and it shows up the next day).

What is lil moab? Never heard of it.

It is an obstacle on Illinois gulch. The obstacle is a stairstep red rock formation that reminds people of Moab, UT trails and obstacles.
