View Full Version : 2019 Anniversary Run Food Planning

Jackie
May 25th, 2019, 09:37 AM
As it has been tradition since the beginning of this group, the Anniversary run will have a pot-luck lunch where everyone is welcome to bring some food to share (along with all the necessities) and spend time getting to know each other. As the China Wall run usually has a pretty big turnout, this part of the day is always fun because it's a great meeting spot to grab something to eat and socialize pretty much all day long as we tend to break into smaller groups to actually drive the trail.

You don't have to feel obligated to bring something, but any contribution you can make is appreciated. Please post up how many people will be in your group so I can keep a headcount. That should include all people in your vehicle and also all people in additional vehicles that may be joining us. Everyone counts as we don't want hungry people!

If you have special dietary needs, please plan to bring your own lunch or enough to share with others who may have the same needs.

I'll keep this spreadsheet up-to-date so everyone can see what we need (and what we likely have enough of).

There will be four of us, and we'll be camping Friday and Saturday night. We will probably some fruit (watermelon, apples, strawberries, etc).

Will be four of us in two vehicles, could be 6 people if the two kids decide to join.
Count on me to bring 2 packs of burgers, 2 packs of buns some condiments and an ice chest full of cold water & soda.
I'll make sure the couple coming with us also brings something to share, I'll try and get it listed once they tell me.

BUMP!

We currently have 17 members going and a few "maybies" in the wings. A few have invited others to join with their rigs and/or friends. Possible headcount of around 30 people or so and 20+rigs.

Only a few members have replied to this thread at this point. As far as the "pot-luck" event goes, it's not looking good. (I see a lot of hungry people and not much of a meet-n-greet event like it has been in the past).

I've done the coordination of this for many years now and most members have really enjoyed the way it was organized and the resulting turnout with tons of food and beverage for everyone. For new members as well us old, this run has always been the best one offering an opportunity to mix and mingle, check out all the vehicles, let the kids and dogs make friends and really just get to know each other. (And the trail is great too, so that's a big plus).

Typically, we break up into smaller groups to actually run the trail in order to avoid traffic jams. This means the pot-luck area usually has a bunch of people around it either waiting to run it or having returned from running it. Either way, there is always food and drink to be had and always someone in our group watching over our stuff.

I'd really appreciate it if all who are attending can respond as requested at the top. Even if you plan to be on-your-own for lunch, at least post how many people will be in your rig(s) so we have a total head-count. You are not required to bring anything to share but it's nice if you can! I don't mind making updates to the spreadsheet, but it would be great if a rapid response could make the chore go a little faster!:D Thanks!

Hi Jackie, there will be two of us, not much of a cooker but we can bring a big jug/s of potato salad for everyone.

Jackie, we're actually a group of 7 now, it seems. Some friends are coming to camp with their RV and pickup. Not sure what they'll bring for potluck, but we've given them information on it. I doubt their full size RAM will be good on the trails (nor may they try to wheel it), so they might be interested in hitching a ride on the trail with anyone willing to spare a seat.

sorry guys i was having a clicking issue on my truck i had to get checked out before i committed to what I could bring, sounds like it's a CV axle joint and they should be able to replace by the weekend no problem.

i'll bring some fruit and a veggie tray, i can bring an extra burner too in case we need it and I may bring some sausages :) Oh and I'm thinking I will bring a Pop Up Tent for some shade unless you all think we don't need one?

I got an open seat maybe riding in my full size will inspire them haha :)

Rick and Moose wheeled full size ram quite a bit - haven't seen them around much lately. Some pics of here:

I'm sure their truck *could* wheel, but I don't know they are up for possible pin striping or damage to their brand new shiny RAM. It's up to them....

I feel bad, I'm planning on attending and looking forward to seeing everyone, but I only have a room that I rent and I eat all my meals out. I would be happy to contribute money or bring something if anyone can give me some ideas. I'd be happy to stop by a grocery store for anything.

I have to bail out of the run this year. Other stuff came up with family.

I'll still watch this thread daily and make all changes that I see to this spreadsheet.

Thanks Alan. Since I just bad to bail out of this run, maybe you could pick up a couple packs of hot dogs and buns. Or bring whatever else "grab and go" style from the store that sounds good to you! Nothing fancy - this is a picnic!

Jackie

Does anyone have a grill they could bring? Tables? Chairs? There are a lot of things that will come in handy besides food! (But it still looks like we need more food. Approximate head-count is now 40+)

yeah my little camping burner thing is more of a backup it can't quickly cook for 40 people hopefully someone can bring a legit grill?

Do any of the folks with real RVs already have a big (real) grill attached to their camping setup? There are a few bringing big trailers this time, I think. Checking with our friends to see if they do (I don't know).

Our friends have a large grill on their RV. I think this will solve some/most of our grill problem.

This run looks like it could be a pretty big group! Considering it is only a few days away, I encourage everyone to take a look at the above spreadsheet and try to offer up some items to fill in some blanks! At this point, Anything you have that could contribute to full bellies, hydration, and basic food prep and comfort will be appreciated by all! Propane grills, a few tables, more burger, chicken, brats, hot dogs, sides, chips, desserts, fruits and veggies, "Gramma's secret recipe", ANYTHING! Do you have extra camp chairs? Throw a couple in your truck. Have a few boxes of snack crackers you bought on sale? Bring 'em! How about a banquet table that folds in half and easily fits in the back of your Jeep? Toss it in!

Everyone will be excited to run the trail, but when you find that it's not your turn to go yet because of the traffic jam, you'll be grateful for the food and conveniences brought by others to share.

Keep this tradition going! Go raid your kitchen cabinets, garages and sheds and see what you can spare for this. Ready, set, GO! :D :lmao:

I have nothing in my kitchen or garage that is useful but I don't mind making a run to the store to pick up whatever is needed. Any suggestions for most needed items?

According to the table on the first page, we may be short on:

side dishes
chips
beverages

I also see "2 packs burgers" and "2 packs dogs" + 2 packs of buns each listed. I am unsure how large a pack of burgers is, so I'll assume 8 to match a pack of buns. In that case, we have 16 burgers and probably 16 dogs + bread to go with them accounted for. As we are expecting 40+ people, we may be short on grilled food as well. I'm having trouble keeping count since several folks have said they will fend for themselves ( no mouths to feed, nothing contributed as well ).

Jackie, we still plan to bring the fruit that we listed in my original post, but I am blank on the food list.

Thanks for making that easy Jackie. Put me down for a couple of bags of chips, and a couple of cases of some sort of flavored water for those who want something less sweet than soda. I'll bring 2 packs of hot dogs and buns, ketchup, mustard, and relish too.

We are going to bring a few more young ones with us, I think four total kids and four adults.

Just made the grocery store run, ended up being 24 burgers and buns and threw in a six pack of brats and buns just to be sure.

Standard condiments and some plates also.

Will also have a case of coke, case of water and twelve sprites iced down.

So far the weather looks like spotty rain at best until the evening, just cooler.

I'm looking forward to it!

I updated the list again this evening so I hope I didn't miss anything. I'm sure people will bring items that are not listed (because they didn't follow this thread or waited until the last minute or whatever) but I'm sure there will be something for everyone as usual and no one will go hungry! Thank you to all who are contributing to this pot-luck. This group ROCKS! I likely won't update the spreadsheet anymore tonight, so it is what it is!

Have a great time tomorrow. And to you campers, (brrr....) bundle up tonight!
