Here is the article from Toyota Owner's Magazine on splicing a synthetic winch line. This is for splicing a broken line, but the same principle applies to splicing in a hook or a thimble and is very similiar to splicing a handle onto a ski rope. More information can be found on the internet (synthetic rope splicing, ropes and knots, etc) if you are interested.
