I've always ran 2" spacers but just put some new wheels on with a different backspace and they stick out about 1.5" further than my old wheels did, on each side. I'm almost at the same track width as my Silverado, and I suspect that's why the TJ is driving much nicer on rutted freeways, it's not riding the top of a rut and is more centered. Having said that, I've been worried about putting more stress on the components with the increased width. I've went from a track width of 64.5"-65" up to 68". Hence the question about too wide...
