the guy on reddit posted the pics and told me of the app so I think same program.

No cost, sign in to the trail and then request the badge. They just redesigned the badges so they are sending out replacements as requested.

The bad; no way to prove running the trail. One just needs to be within a few miles of the trail to check in. At least they have to be in the vicinity to get get credit.

The only hiccup with the program is that some people complain that it takes too long. I just check in/claim them and forget about it, and they show up eventually. So far so good.
