As a cj5 owner - its military predecessor is the M38A1 - I found this interesting. Much like the famous WWII jeep MB (also ford GPW) is the military predecessor of the cj 2a. This is the transition from the flatfender jeep to the round fender and helps explain why some of the changes were made. The biggest change was the engine: L134 'go devil' to the F134 'hurricane': from 60 to 70 hp! I like the comment about how 'bloated' the styling of the m38a1 is compared to previous flatfenders....wonder what they would say about newer JK and JL jeeps!
