At 94K miles, my WK2 GC with Quadra Drive II and ELSD started binding up when turning left or right, forward or reverse. My local shop deduced it was a transfer case problem but couldn’t read the pertinent codes to go further, so they recommended the dealership.

Yep, the motor and module were bad, but wow, what a bend over experience that was - well over a grand. This electronically controlled AWD stuff is great but is really expensive to fix!

Interesting, I didn't know the AWD could be swapped out for manual.

But no, I really like AWD (+traction+stability control) because it adapts to rapidly changing winter road conditions which is a must for me. No complaints about the function, just the cost of repair.

Only a grand? You got off easy... You couldn't pay me enough to drive one of the newer technomobiles. Resale value is going to be nearly zero on a lot of these rides.

Not a clue. Just thinking anything can get like an Atlas but you would loose AWD on the fly.
