Doesn't qualify for the "builds" section since there isn't much to modify!

It is a 1978 Suzuki FZ50 scooter. 2 stroke single cylinder 49cc.

Just bought this over the weekend. 433 original miles. Got it from the nephew of the original owner. Had been garage stored for about 15 years. Cleaned the carb and tank. Fresh oil. Changed the tranny fluid with Slick 50 that I had. Missing a couple trim plastics, but runs and rides great! So far less than 1 gallon and I have gone 75 miles!!!! Registration was only $5.25 for a 3 year sticker. Cheap transportation!

There isn't much to modify!



It needs more triangulation! :D

Good on gas but a max speed of ?
Good for close to home or further?

It seems to max at 32mph on the speedo. I think it is really doing about 30. Not bad for going to the store and such. Not many mods to do to it. Thinking about a big bore kit. That will bring the cc's to 70 or 80. Not sure how much more power that will get me. Right now it can't get out of it's own way on a hill!

I was reading this and your other post about the '87 and I know who to talk to when I need to get something wheeled with an engine for my boy. You know how to buy.

Nice new toy! Sell that sucker! Make a profit.... with that gas mileage I bet it wouldn't last more than an hour at $500.

Yeah, they sell for more than $500. I think we are planning on keeping it for a while. Already gone about 100 miles. What the Miata would have cost: $14.00. What the Toyota would have cost: $20. Spent $3.98 in the scooter. Priceless!

So I just bought a 1985 Honda Spree for the wife yesterday! $200 from the original owner with 450 miles on it! Hadn't run in 20+ years. Emptied all the water out of the fuel tank and cleaned it out with harsh chemicals. Changed the nasty 2-stroke oil. New plug and cleaned the carb. Runs like a champ and has more power than my little machine!

She might be racing around on the Honda. On the other hand, I will be cruising on the Suzuki.
