Hello Folks,

I enacted a couple changes to activate HTTPS / SSL for the site. There might be additional changes needed to the configuration as I'm seeing a certificate issue regarding mixed content.

If you find something that is not working or looking as it should, please post in this thread.

Noticed the “return to top” button was absent this morning though not sure it is connected.

Thanks - I don't see it either.

It's probably an HTTP item and your browser / certificate settings are set to load only HTTPS items. You might be able to adjust your settings for this site with respect to the HTTPS settings (load HTTPS and HTTP or only HTTPS).

I'll look into it. There are a couple images that are not loading as they are being called by HTTP.

Here is what I saw this morning from another computer. This makes it a bit prohibitive to use the FR vs. the full name, but no big deal in reality.

I get the same using Fr4x4.com on my iPad.

Well, how about that flat tire event today?

Many folks know the forum has a "short name" URL - FR4x4.com along with the formal FrontRange4x4.com. When the HTTPS changes were enacted at the start of this thread the short URL died due to certificate name mis-match. Clever me thought - let's simply visit the domain name registrar and "forward" FR4x4.com requests over to FrontRange4x4.com. That should (famous last words) take care of the short name not working. Ultimate, that forward process is what I envision as preferable.

Well, perhaps an hour after the forward was put into place... I left the office for an onsite appointment - and the phone tried to get my attention. Back to the office I checked the messages - site's down - drat. My change didn't go as planned. Visit the registrar and remove the forward - but the side did not come back up. A certificate error was present.

I started a support ticket with our host. I then reverted the HTTPS / certificate use changes that were put into place at the start of this thread - the forum's up and (should be) running as it was for the past several months.

The support ticket is now a low priority issue as the forum seems to be operating. I'll see what the host says will be the preferred action.

Again, post up issues as you find'm.

Sorry for the hassle. I put on the spare and we're rolling along.

Thank you for all you do here Jim. I know from personal experience that managing an active website takes much more effort than one would expect.

Our host corrected the bad SSL cert before the weekend but I held off making changes until the new week. I have the site, with the full name, rolling with HTTPS. Folks will still notice there is no "GoTo Top" button and some images are not displaying. The FR4x4.com name _should_ come alive before too long. I'm heading to the host's ticket system to advance the support ticket. They're going to tend the FR4x4.com to FrontRange4x4.com name redirect. Once they have that tended the FR4x4.com name should become usable again.

GoToTop and missing images are on the list.

Thanks!

I just paid the hosting bill and found the payment process "odd" (the web package was listed as via PayPal but no paypal payment option existed - so I sent the payment to their e-mail address...). The company called me back with a "what's this money" type of comment. In the end, I was talking with the head admin and the ball of string unraveled regarding the SSL swap.

He said, do you have some time, let me look into this... The forum was set with FR4x4.com as the domain in use with FrontRange4x4.com as an alias - though in my time here FrontRange4x4.com (the long name) was the only name I used - everywhere. I would see and hear of the short name on a rare day. When he saw the issue he said - let's make the long name the account and let's have the short name redirect to the long name. Yes please! In a scant ten minutes on the phone - done.

1) The long name is the account

2) FR4x4.com redirects to FrontRange4x4.com

3) SSL cert for the short name is no longer an issue

An unexpected and fruitful phone call. I'm thankful.

Wrapping up the http call issues is still on my plate. Earlier today I search-n-destroyed several HTTP to HTTPS issues, but more exist.

edit: sweetness - "Back to top" is alive!

edit2: it looks like there is, for this page, one and only one http image call - icon1.gif

Thanks for the kind words folks.

`just off the phone with a client (a 10 minute quick specs for new system phone call rolled into an hour then another 15 to deal with passwords on their computer). I still need to hit the garage to button up the exhaust. I'm thinking YES but won't change RSVP yet.

I believe all ToDo list items WRT the SSL/HTTPS change are tended.

If anyone knows of a forum function that is not working, please let me know.

If anyone sees a "certificate issue" called out in their browser, please let me know the URL.

Thanks!
