Hey everyone, as most of you know we have a Canyonlands and Beef Basin 3 day / 2 night trip planned and reserved for Monday-Wednesday (Sep 21-23) and after exiting the Needles district on Wednesday afternoon, exact time depends on when we get there but I'm thinking mid-afternoon is a safe estimate. I am planning to head south thru Blanding (or south on forest roads thru the Bears Ears national monument) and then west on Hwy 95 towards the Hite crossing of the Colorado river. This entire area all the way northwest to Hanksville is desolate desert with slot canyons and rock formations and lots and lots of 4x4 trails and hiking trails. I haven't made any firm decisions on what to explore yet but some ideas are running Poison Springs Canyon east to the Flint trail (or running the Flint trail to the same intersection and then take Poison Springs road west to 95). The Flint trail looks awesome, but it's a 100 mile commitment so I'd probably only do that if another vehicle tagged along. Jacobs chair is another trail that's a possibility instead of Poison Springs.... and in the same general area.
After this (Wednesday and Thursday nights probably) I was thinking maybe Cathedral Valley northwest of Hanksville and/or the Little Muddy creek/Wild Horse road that goes to Ding & Dang slot canyons... or something else up in the San Rafael swell area on Friday and Saturday to head home (or Sunday if we need 2 nights up here).
My son and one of his friends might join me with their big camera gear and take pics and stuff, which would be cool..... but I also kind of like being alone so we'll see what happens. Either way, I just don't like hanging out in Moab and I'm obsessed with exploring the more moderate/easy overland type trails in the Grand Staircase / Glenn Canyon / Lake Powell / San Rafael / Capital Reef areas........
Anyone wanna join and help make some decisions on what to explore? Pic for reference
