With the Rover down an axle from Fins and Things the day before, Shane decided to stay at the house and try to find a replacement over the phone. Matt, Ty and I saddled up and headed for Sevenmile Rim. Sevenmile Rim remains one of my favorite moderate trails near Moab, with small challenges spaced far enough apart that you don't get bored between them nor fatigued from too many difficult challenges close together. Matt and Ty spent most of the day with big smiles, as they similarly enjoyed this trail. An optional climb part way through this trail provided them some amusement as I failed to complete the climb on a couple attempts and called for a spotter for the first time this week. This was one of a couple obstacles this week where I wish I had a locker or limited slip diff in the front for a little more traction.

Along Sevenmile we encountered a "baby golden crack" obstacle that we spotted the Ram through -- the only vehicle in our group to attempt it. It was great seeing the Ram try an obstacle that the rest of us did not attempt as Matt became more comfortable wheeling the Ram on some awkward stuff. The large tires and cavernous ground clearance on the truck make it a very capable wheeler despite it's length.

Sevenmile Rim kept us busy until early afternoon, but we finished with plenty of sunlight left. The end of Sevenmile left us very near the start of 3-D, so we continued the day with a short stop at Tusher Tunnel before starting on 3-D. 3-D provided a good challenge for Ty and Matt, giving them opportunity to improve their confidence in their rigs before what we would attempt the following day.

I missed out on this day as I decided to spend it calling around trying to find an axle to replace my broken one. I felt pretty dumb here as I have a full set of spares in my garage and even had them on my checklist of things to bring, but when I picked them up to load them and realized they weighed about 100lbs I decided that I was overpacking, odds were I wouldn't break an axle and that was just a ton of extra weight to carry around. Another lesson learned. Luckily I was able to get the vendor for the RCV axle that I broke to overnight me an axle that was waiting for me when we got back to our rental house.
