Shane's replacement axle arrived on Day 7 while we were completing the trifecta trails. Late that evening, he was able to reinstall the axle but found the threads gummed up on the large nut that secures it. Early this morning we ran to the auto parts store for some tools to try to clean the threads, then he spent a while attempting to chase the nut threads on the broken axle before securing the nut on the replacement axle. With checkout of our rental at 10:00, Shane was racing the clock to complete re-assembly of his rig and for us to get out on time. At 9:30, Shane was able to pull the jacks from the rig and roll on the new axle for the first time. We made it out of our rental and refueled for the trip home.

With the rover rolling again, we decided to take the scenic dirt route home via Onion Creek to Gateway, CO. We headed up 128 to the Onion Creek turnoff and then followed the trails towards home. Along the way we passed a contingent from the Mile-Hi Jeep Club and several other OHVs.

If you have never traveled this route to or from Moab before, I highly recommend it. It added about 2 hours to our travel time, but provided some amazing views. This was a great way to end the week of wheeling and get Shane a little more time on some dirt with his newly repaired rig.

I think we were all still dehydrated and tired from the previous days adventure so Onion Creek was a great suggestion for a final trail on the way home. I am sure I'll be doing this route again too, it's just pleasant, not too rough and something I could take family on for sightseeing without worrying about them being scared or thrown around the truck while I was full on wheeling. Highly recommend this one. I also just really enjoyed seeing Trent splash through the creek as we must have crossed it over 20 times as we wound our way through the trail.
