We had a good day boys!
Tarryall was a very scenic drive, Chris caught a heck of a piece of metal in his tire just at the start of the day.
He quick swapped the spare and we drove on to the gate which had just been closed by the rangers flexing all kinds of tracked equipment.

Found some really cool spurs to drive around on.
Chris freed a young man who got pretty stuck in a drift.
Of course we had to see how much farther we could go, maybe 100 feet!

Thanks for showing up guys I enjoyed it immensely!
That should hold me for a little while at least. :thumb:

Used my new traction boards today. They worked, but they did not hold up well at all. One board is basically toast after today and I am shocked how badly and quickly it failed. I purchased the popular x-bull boards. Everyone online seems to agree they are about the best of the "not maxtrax" boards, but not as good as maxtrax. After my experience today, I can't see how the x-bull boards are worth buying at any price.

Damn, I missed this thread. It's only 10 minutes from my house and I was considering hitting Chinaman Gulch that day. Would have been cool to see some other people in my hood. It's cold and boring living on a mountain top sometimes.

Sorry that happened, Chris, that is not a cheap tire.

Sorry about your boards too, Trent. The kryptonite of traction boards is snow, I think they are really for sand and not much else. They get brittle, crack and split in my experience. I have a super cheap set of knock offs and a set of plywood beach boards like the clam rakers on the beaches where I grew up used, essentially a board with bolts through it. I've broken both types on snow, it doesn't conform to the shape of the board the way sand does and they crack under weight.

I have a place in LPR so we are practically neighbors assuming you are in SS or IM?

A few pics of the day, something about Aspen trees and snow that requires at least one black and white shot. Also one of the aluminum tent stake (I think) that I finally pulled out of the tire. Should be repairable but will know more tomorrow. The spur we took was a bit more fun than the main road, but not as many long distance views with the trees and all. I think the 18 degree weather was not friendly to the traction boards.

Thought I saw Chris pass me on 24 in Manitou Springs after we split up. Did you have to head down that way for tire repair? Might have been a different Jeep.

Not me. Got "home" 10 minutes after leaving Rock Creek Hills road, stoked the fire and had a beverage. Came back to town via 285 this morning and will head to the tire shop in the morning. If that one can't be fixed, that will make two of five. How did the brew master do?

Great. First beer was a little rushed but hit all the marks for taste. Looks like he's injectected some energy into a formerly struggling brewery and they had some good steady traffic yesterday.

Wanted to throw out some "thanks" to everyone for the help, particularly Aaron for the pad and impact wrench which helped to speed things up with the tire change and to Trent for letting me try out and put the first crack in the one traction board while getting out of the predicament at the top of the one hill. Should have thrown those up earlier, my apologies.

Used this "snow day" to process some gopro video. Need to figure out why I got some reflection off the back of the windshield this time and not last time in the Cherokee Park Rd video. Must have had the camera too far away from the windshield or something.
