View Full Version : Second opinion wanted (FoCo)

Hey all,
Thinking I need to make some changes and replace some parts on my rubi. My best (semi-educated) guess is tie rod ends (my understanding is I'll have the replace the whole thing) along with ball joints. Was hoping someone in town would be willing to give me a second opinion. Subsequently I think some of these items are prematurely worn (beyond running 35s on factory ends/joints) due to a too stiff suspension setup. That's a whole 'nother conversation though and I'm not sure where to begin in that realm other than testing different setups until I find something that I think works well.

I'm game.
Are you looking to test looseness / slop in joints (Upper/Lower ball joints, tie rod ends, wheel bearing)?

If it was me I'd replace or upgrade everything you even suspect, the clock it ticking on all of it and it's so much easier in the garage than on the trail.

Hiya Jonathon! :hibye:
Just embrace the fact that Ball Joints and Tie Rod Ends are considered "wear parts." The real problem is finding quality replacements.

Yea I've had money earmarked for both for quite some time knowing it would have to be done at some point. Either way I'm wanting to make sure I don't need to address anything else (pitman arm/drag link) before I order parts and rip the front end apart to replace things. As they say, it's easier to do it right the first time.
@jim @newracer - Are either of you available sometime by Sunday (Saturday I'm busy for at least part of the day)? I'll gladly come to you with your choice of beverage or equivalent. I also feel it's worth stating that I'm fully vaccinated as well.

I won't be available until mid May / after the Canyonlands trip. A Sunday at that point could work, though a weekday/evening would be a pref if your Sat's are tied up.

@jim @newracer just wanted to touch base to see if either of you have some spare time. My schedule is now more open as well. Thanks!

I'm flexible - what's on your mind (as to schedule)? Sat / Sun / weekday / weekevening? I have time tomorrow morning (2p onsite client in Loveland is one appointment).
