Bolt in electric conversion motors that look like and fit where old school V8s fit. You can even bolt on your carb, exhaust, all of it for the "classic" look. I cannot wait to convert my LJ!!

So it has 22kwh worth of batteries built into the block which is good for 60-70 miles. That is pretty accurate, my Leaf has a 24kwh battery and is good for about 80 miles on a full charge, but if I drive in B mode I can go a week without charging. If you added a battery pack where the gas tank is I bet you could currently get 150 miles with existing tech. In 2 years that will probably be doubled, at least.

Yeah... but it gets cheap so fast. My LEAF sold for $38.000.00 in 2015, a couple of months ago I paid $7500.00 with 58,000 miles / 11 bars and no issues. He's just the first, in a couple of years it will be affordable.

You take the jeep on longer trips - how will recharge locations and recharge time play into lifestyle change? Denver to Grand Junction shows as 244 miles. No issue?

This is a current charging station map https://www.plugshare.com/ a lot of places already have chargers, and if a few years gas cars will no longer be available so I guess these will be replacing gas stations. Bye bye Jiffy Lube too, and most auto parts stores I'd guess.

but this just happened too https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1134092_infrastructure-bill-7-5b-toward-nationwide-network-of-500-000-ev-chargers

and the private sector is involved as well https://www.craigdailypress.com/news/colorado-parks-and-wildlife-rivian-partner-to-install-electric-vehicle-chargers-in-every-state-park/

I wonder how hotels will handle it in 10 years when everyone wants to charge in the parking lot. If you have 75 guests I guess you'll need 75 stations. It is interesting to see the world change.

Now for recharge time... How will that change your lifestyle when on an off-road trip with others?

I'm thinking back to your prior trips - you're planning to hotel (with an overnight charge) and not camp (no recharge available)?

no, still camping / hotel / vrbo mix, but I'll just have to plan for it, or maybe not by the time it happens. Solar charging roof tech is coming: https://ngtnews.com/solar-roof-cells-change-ev-charging-possibilities

to be clear, I'm not an environmentalist or anything, I got a used EV as a stop-gap when my new Ford Maverick was delayed for the 3rd time (still not coming) and ended up loving it, cancelled the Maverick. It's just a better driving experience than a gas car in many ways, worse in none.

And my q wasn't biased either - I can see, if I had an electric jeep, my day long and multi-day trips would change - significantly - with current battery recharge times and range. I was curious how much you had worked that into your desire to go all electric for a "trip" vehicle. [edit - emphasis added] and... I'm curious to learn how life might change (for me) in the future.

If the industry gets to a full range ten, maybe twenty minute "recharge" duration - either via true recharge or a battery swap process - then I see my lifestyle not changing significantly on a trip. If we're still at an hour or more (even 30 minutes or more) for down time for full range - I don't know if I'd want to change my lifestyle for it. Where's the magic glass ball...

In related news - how's life with electric in Germany - where, one might assume, electric is more common. A nice write-up from the motorcycle group I check in with (there are nice pictures though only the text is needed). (1) Finding a convenient recharge that was (2) available and (3) that worked with their vehicle was the issue of their day trip.

Issues to work out - it'll happen - in time.

edit2: If you wish me to pull my posts as they're a threadjack - let me know.

no threadjack, just conversation. :thumb: I want an electric Jeep for performance mostly, although I do like clean air and cooler temps. I wonder if conversion will be a better idea than just buying an electric jeep in a few years.
