Meet Up at 11 AM

I am trying to figure out where the 2 groups met up on the Pickle Gulch/Miners Gulch run somewhere along Apex, if someone can help me out with a pin to where that little dirt lot was where some people had split off I would really appreciate it

Updated meetup pin, right around this spot there is a little dirt lot to pull over

I say attempt because Miners Gulch shows as impassable for the way up as of 10/29. Shane and I are going to give it a try and if it's truly impassable we can try to find another close by trail to have some fun with.

Dang, I can't wheel until Sunday. I was thinking of going up that same general area, but my son is flying in from California tomorrow so I'm busy. I'll have to put some Sunday feelers out there...... You guys have fun, hope you get up Miners!

There are two roads marked private off apex road. They are forest svc thru private. They are marked on the map.

I have put x's on the difficult route. Easier route has the arrow. James, Trent, and Jim did the difficult access this past summer. While I and some others bailed.

Hope this helps.

Hey Tom, you know where our 2 groups met up after finishing Pickle Gulch and then the F150 (Jake) who had lost steering broke off to go home along with Jackie?

Was that right about here?

If I am thinking of the same spot as you I think it was right at the edge of Apex. Just north of the close up you provided. Your close up shows the north road of the image I provided.

Trailsoffroad runs this trail south to North, or downhill. Shane and I ran this uphill from Mosquito creek road (off Apex). I’m confused if you guys are running north or south? The trailhead according to trailsoffroad starts from half way up Yankee hill road out of Central city

Brookfield gulch road is closed to the public even though your map shows it. Miners was a blast going up! Man I wish I could join you guys tomorrow…. Lol

If I get up in time (I'll try!) and the jeep starts (it's been sitting), I'll be there. I'll update RSVP when I get up.

I just loaded waypoints on the GPS for the Apex road / Miner's Gulch intersection from my prior visit - up-stream travel.

g'night

I'm up but the jeep is silent. I'm taking this as a "sign from God" so I'm staying in (and cleaning out the garage so I can get the jeep in to do things that need to be done).

The jeep did this once before on a cold morning - hit the key and nothing. It has a new starter / starter relay since last summerand it did this once before with the old starter - so I believe the issue is up-stream from the starter. I, 99%, believe I could go out and manually engage the starter solenoid/relay and it'd start but I'll stay in and get the garage cleaned so I can get the jeep in - it does have stuff to tend (GMRS radio for one).

Have fun folks! If you need a hand / get stuck, holler at me and I can come down.

Looks like if we want anyone to come out on the trail with us we need to go get stuck Scott. Let's see what we can do.

I am curious what the snow/ice condition was for ya today!

TDash
December 18th, 2021, 05:14 PM
Snow was not very deep and we didn't see much ice. Unfortunately there was a massive tree blocking the trail to the creek for miners gulch so we couldn't make it all the way and had to head back. We found some side trails that were pretty narrow but we made it through and found ourselves at Moon Gulch.

All and all it was a wonderful day in the trail, I'm grateful that Shane came out so I could hit some snow/dirt after waiting so long to get my truck back.

P.S. that pin drop was perfect for the little dirt area I had been thinking of

Looks like I should plan a chain-saw-run for next weekend !!
(boys and their toys)

Any picture of the tree? Or perhaps location (easier to get to it from the top of the trail or bottom of the trail)?

It's very close to the bottom of the trail.

It's very close to the bottom of the trail.

Thanks! The picture looks to be an easier tree to tend - not on the ground - not overly large.

To confirm - this spot, coming in from Apex road, is before any of the difficult creek obstacles, yes?

This is my limit / the chainsaw's limit. I purchased a smaller chainsaw (14" bar) for a lower motor amp draw as it runs off on an inverter - at the edge of what the 1500/3000watt inverter can supply.

The picture of my G in front of the tree finally helped me realize where I should put my chainsaw in the winter, right in the center of my spare tire.

With the chain pointing out so you can just back into trees to cut them down? You could use the CTIS to change the angle of attack of the saw too.

No, I was actually planning on dropping the stabilizing jacks first so the truck didn't move around too much. I was basing the design on this prior art.

I was always amazed that Speed Racer could fly through a forest at top speed with trees flying out of the way. Those saws - they didn't compute as being strong enough. Ah, memories.
