Biden is coming next week to dedicate it as a National Monument. I am going to see if Ican get an invite. Gonna call Bennet’s office tomorrow. I have a special connection to it. Both my father and grandfather worked on its construction.

I was there yesterday. https://imgur.com/a/gcrDzxi
I was surprised to see so many obviously well-used campsites now closed. There was a big sign going in that said they were closed "for your safety" as well as closure markers at most of the campsites. These were beautiful campsites that have obviously been well-used for several decades, so I can't imagine what the danger is. The guy I was with speculated that maybe they found old artillery shells or something dangerous, but I can't imagine you'd run into any just sitting in a campsite.

There are a number of areas closed due to old ordinance up there I know.

Many areas were closed due to asbestos contamination. There was a cleanup effort but I do not know if it was completed or not.

How could there be asbestos in campsites without any structures?

Structures have been removed. Doesn’t mean they got all the asbestos

Have not heard anything back from any of those I called. Since the ceremony is tomorrow I guess I don’t have an invite and will not be going.

They demolished the structures without removing the asbestos and there is demolition debris in the soil, mostly asbestos-cement board. My previous employer had a project up there several years ago, I wasn't directly involved, it was mostly delineating the contamination. I am not sure how much of the cleanup was completed.
