This is a famous overloading route thru the Mojave desert in Southern California. The mojave had huge monsoon floods this year that destroyed roads along this trail so detours and route finding additions would make this quite an adventure.

Anyone interested in making a winter road trip to the Mojave?

NPS says "Mojave Road on Soda Lake from preserve boundary to Kelbaker Rd, and Mojave Road in Paiute Gorge remain closed due to monsoonal flood damage." Is that the damage you are referring to? It doesn't mention anything about detours

Yep, there are detours around these closures but likely damaged and washed out roads throughout. It’s not supposed to be technically very hard but it’s extremely remote and a long trail (100+ miles)

Do you think a Subaru Outback would be able to do it? From what I see the answer is yes, except for a couple potential river crossings? I just found I'm still going to be unemployed in January (yay) so thinking about this one again

except for a couple potential river crossings?

Pro Tip: Have Matt go first, strap connected to your subi. If he goes fast enough on the crossing, you might not get any water in the car! (video would be required)

I would not take a Suburu on the Mojave road….. maybe parts of it but not the entirety of it. It’s rated moderate and this summer there were multiple floods that have damaged all roads in the Mojave, a few sections of this trail have “detours” now. I am not even sure I’d take a Jeep on this right now, with the road conditions unknown.

If you’re thinking about coming out here to wheel I have lots of suggestions! If you’re planning to just road trip in the Suburu I’d definitely hang out and go along to make sure you can make it out safe!!!
