I want to do something similar with a 60s Continental or an old Mercedes. Whatever I can find with a bad motor.
Add solar, and just use it as my primary putting around town car.

Currently $65k for the system, I'll wait a while unless I win the lotto.

How much is an old, electric fork lift going for?

And I keep saying, I can’t see myself driving an Electric..... I’m gas’s to the bone.
But then I remember back in the 80s I swore I’d never drive a fuel injected. And here we are....

Not saying "never" myself - but there seem to be serious issues for electric only. Now, hybrid (ala Prius - for enhanced gas efficiency - sure). Then again, the fusion news of late is curious.

Hybrid (or Hydrogen - if they ever build infrastructure) would be cool for a offroad vehicle (personally - range anxiety for an battery only vehicle is a deal breaker). If they really have created fusion with more power out than in - then the next 10 years maybe pretty interesting!

But look at the advancement made in the last five years, or the last ten years.
Where ya think electric or hybrid in the next five or ten years...look at the 2012 Prius compared to the 2023 Prius

My daily driver is a 2015 LEAF that sold for 38,000.00 new and has a range of about 84 miles. You can get a leaf now for 28,000.00 with more than double the range. I charge it every day or two, never below 20 miles and never above 60 and the battery is only down 1 bar from new, the battery should last for atleast another 10 years at this rate. I've never had any range issues because I use it for work only so it's predictable. It's also the best car I've ever had, the acceleration is ridiculous and it's not even a fast EV. I've greased and retorqued the axle shaft nuts (common Nissan thing with all small models), added wiper fluid and fixed a flat since I bought it, no other maintainence at all. Fun fact, I can still deduct my mileage from my business taxes and it increased from 58.5 cents a mile to 62.5 in 2022 while my expenses for the car have dropped to around 0 aside from charging which I often do for free. The car has paid itself off and is now minorly profitable to own. I love my EV and not for environmental reasons. The planet is fine, a few degrees is nothing to it. It will kill us, but the planet will be fine. Better off without us, actually. :thumb:
GM and Ford both have electric crate motors and are both coming out with full conversion kits. GM is making a kit with all Bolt parts, should be pretty cheap. The whole car is about 30k and they are starting to show up in salvage yards too. Howell fuel injection kits are made from GM junkyard parts, I bought one for my YJ and was surprised to see the used computer / rebuilt throttle body that showed up. It was also 1,100.00 compared to the MOPAR kit at 4,500.00; my point being it's going to get cheap quickly.

$4,340 for the motor, I wonder how much batteries are? I think that is usually a large percentage of the cost. You also still need a traction inverter and a control system.

These guys are physicists that are converting a TJ in just about the most anal retentive and expensive way I've seen (meant as a compliment). @15:00 they tell the cost, about 40k including 10k for the Jeep, but they say it's more expensive than it would be for most. They also consider another one using a LEAF engine and battery and estimate that would cost about 10k. I guess I could put my LEAF stuff in my Jeep...

And my son got this one this week. Monster of a truck. If I wasn’t towing a camper, I’d have one too…
