So I was just under my jeep checking the front drive shaft and it appears not to have any anomalies when I rotate it. I thought the noise and vibration was from it but apparently not. I took it to Stonum last summer for a check and they said I needed both front and back as well as front wheel bearings. Jim looked at it and we didn’t see any issues like that at the time.
i really don’t know where to go or what to do now. The shops in Longmont all want to sell me services I don’t need.
Any suggestions or would anyone be willing to come look at it?
Thanks.

What are the symptoms you're having? Have you tried putting it on jack stands and getting the driveshaft up to speed while under it to completely rule it out? I'll be in Firestone next Sunday and can swing by if you need a hand with anything, but I'm just a shade tree mechanic so you may well have much more experience than me. Although I've gotten pretty good at diagnosing problems with the help of Youtube!

If the others in the next Sunday Maze District meeting are up for it - if you joined in - there'd be several sets of eyes that could take a look at it. I'm game too!
If they fit (likely yes), you're more than welcome for me to swap my wheels/tires onto your jeep to see if the vibration changes with tire change.

Just guessing, but if it's a constant vibration plus a noise in 2x4 or 4x4 and you've ruled out driveshaft and tires it's likely a unit bearing. They're pretty easy to do and under $100.00. Moog makes good ones.

I will likely take you up on this offer. Jim has my number and can probably text me the address if he sees my reply. If not I will text him in a few days and ask for it.
Thanks!

Haven’t tried that. Lifted it and spun the tire by hand and the shaft movement seemed smooth as silk.

worth a try....I thought I had a rear driveshaft u-joint or a bearing in the rear axle going out last summer....but when turning everything by hand listening with a stethoscope etc, there was no bad bearing noise....so I swapped the barely used AT tires from the 58 onto the CJ in place of the chunked and worn MTs and the sound went away....turned out it was just a lot of tire noise and balance issues....

Planning on being a J.P.s today. My wheels are 5x5 Jim. Don’t know if yours will swap in but sounds like a great idea to try.
