Wheeling Alone Thread?

Once upon a time back in a previous life, the jeep club I was in at the time had a thread that was for those that were heading into the void alone. One would post up where they were going, when they would be leaving, what they were driving and their estimated return time. If they didn't post up at that time we had a small group that would start calling contacts to see if they forgot (to be ale to use this service you had to give emergency contact numbers). If enough time went by with no responses or follow ups a search team would be dispatched to the location stated to find the lost wheeler. This saved several lives I know of due to the extreme climate of AZ. Your jeep dies in the desert could mean life or death. Seems like it could happen here in CO almost as easily.
Does this club have something set up like this and would we be willing to do such a thing? I would be happy to be part of this if we were able to get this set up or if it is already can someone point me to the thread?

We have exactly what you talk about - "The Check-In Thread". It's in "Members Only" as private info (phone numbers) are expected to be posted.

Additionally we have the "Rescue List".

The rescue list is a list of members, listed by geographic area, that are willing to be called out to help a stranded / broken / stuck member. Info can be found here:

I wheel alone all the time and have these in my phone as well as Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery just in case. I have a mental threshold of $3000.00 or so for a recovery which I haven't had to test yet, hope that translates to a good attitude if I ever need one...

This guy is a good example of how not to wheel alone. Ended up with a $150.00 fine and $3500.00 towing fee which is fine, but I do hope he made atleast a $1200.00 donation to Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery for their time. $100.00 an hour would be a steal for that service. IMO doing something stupid and then calling volunteers to try to save money is ridiculous, I consider CO4x4R&R to be a last resort and not a free one. I only solo in places like Fourmile, Yankee Hill, Johnny Park, Medano Pass; trails that have cell reception, are easy enough that I probably won't have any problems but are short enough that I can hike out easily too. I also go with overnight gear / water / food and a couple of hundred dollars in my wallet so if some nice person comes by and helps me out I can say thank you (if they'll take it, most of us usually don't). Most recoveries won't cost what this one did, but most don't happen on a hiking trail at altitude and require a Bobcat. Aim before you fire.

Therein lies part of the problem, Stubblefield explained: A lack of consequences for bad backcountry behavior.
A meeting - between the USFS, several counties (Summit, Eagle, Pitkin and Grand), search and rescue agencies, Stubblefield's Mountain Recovery and McBryde's Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery - addressed that issue two weeks ago. Stubblefield said the discussion brought up the possibility that stuck vehicles' drivers be required to hire tow companies for recovery, and not let the rental companies send up their own personnel into the backcountry or ask volunteers like Colorado 4x4 Rescue and Recovery to get their vehicle unstuck - without cost.
"We have the ability to hold someone's vehicle until they pay the bill," Stubblefield said. "It gives what we do for the Forest Service teeth."

That's a crazy (to me) setup - rolling that far along on a singletrack.
