View Full Version : Getting my new tires next week

So I've decided to go with the new BFG KM2s. I'll be getting them in 33x10.50 size.
I really did not want to be skiing around on my current tires this winter.
This will make me 4 inches narrow which I hope wont effect my off road performance so bad. I currently run some BALD 33x12.50 Pro Comp XTerrains which have performed really well over the last 2 years. I tore one side wall and had that replaced.
Anyone else running KM2s? How do you like them?

Are these the ones with the BFG Krawler-like lug pattern (too lazy to search :) )?

Yup, they are the ones with the krawler inspired tread. I've been dying for BFGs since I got into the whole 4x4 scene.

Got my new ones on a week ago. 38x15.50x15 Nitto Mud Grapplers. Looks like they are going to do everything pretty well except for really icy roads. Big voids, big lugs, and little siping don't do much for that kind of stuff. At least I realize that and have driven other tires like it on other rigs.
Those tires you got are supposed to be really good. Keep us posted...

Definitely going to be testing them out next weekend. Maybe on Wheeler Lake but I'm not sure.

So speaking of tires, does anyone know how Mud Terrain or Crawling tires do on snow and ice? The next time I need to get new tires I was hoping to upgrade a little from my Mickey Thomson Dick Cepecs. I'm new to this forum so if I am not in the right place let me know.

In general MT's do not do well on ice. If you are looking for an MT that will do well i suggest the Trxus MT they have been very impressive. key is they are siped. Other than those i'd suggest the BFG AT's which also do very well on snow and ice. We'll also have to hear back on the KM-2's they look promising.

Welcome to the site! You are probably in the right place and you will probably get a lot of answers. There was a recent thread that discussed the pros and cons of a lot of tires, but I couldn't find it quickly.
There are a couple of guys that know a bit more about tires than I do, but the base facts are: big lugs and large voids with little to no siping are bad on snowy/icy roads and good in mud and off road. Snow/AT tires with smaller lugs , smaller voids, and some siping are good at just about anything.
I would try to find that thread if I were you as it bashed around most of the major tire brands.

Got my tires put on Wednesday. They are great, a bit of a stiff ride though.

Heres a pic. It will take awhile for me to get used to the new look. The thinner tires are definitely noticeable to me.

I did manage to put a small gouge in one of my tires.

This a very up close shot so it might look alot worse than it is but do you guys think this is anything to worry about? its not deep at all but I'm really upset that I did this to my brand new tires.

I have those in my tires, including a piece with no rubber and cord showing. Just glue it back on. :D

What should I glue it with?
Anyway, heres my favorite pic from today.

I've had the KM2's for about 5000 miles. So far I like em on and off road although I have yet to test them in deep snow or ice yet. Doug
