View Full Version : La Salle Pass and misc other Gultches

Jessica and I decided to spend some time with just the 2 of us this weekend. We went camping just a little way from China Wall. We were camping along the trail to a Gulch(I forgot the names and didn't take a pic DO'H). We didn't leave CO Spring till 4:30 or so Saturday. We hesitated on "weather" or not to go as all the forecast reports looked bad. We packed up and headed out, on the way the wind picked up and we hit a cold driving rain in Woodland Park ... Lucily this was shortly over and the skies were sunny before Florrisant. We went on to find our spot and set up camp in the sunny and warmer than home weather. When we finished I looked over to where Wheeler Lake would be... CLOUDS... couldn't help but wonder how the others were doing on the trail!

So as we built a campfire,had dinner, hung out we watched the clouds move around us, somewhere around 10 pm or so the clouds made it to our campsite, made for a really cool experience, but we stayed warm around the fire!! I wish my camera could have caught the view... but no luck.

Next morning we got up had breakfast and went out cruising. We drove all over the many AND I MEAN MANY roads out there, did 3 gulches. We drove down FS 225,223, 867, etc etc etc there are roads to everything out there.

We then saw a sign La Salle Pass, while this was all done in our XJ in 2WD I recommend this trail for next years Fall colors run, it was BEAUTIFUL!! I am glad we took this road, it actually drops you off on the other side of Wilkerson Pass (you can continue but we didn't have time)! Anyway enough of the blah blah here are pics

I drove past that area (hwy 24) quite a bit this summer and I always wanted to explore around there.

There are a TON of roads... We spent 4 hours just cruising.

You actually could. It is addressed, has a big propane tank and is prob. a nice cozy little home inside!

Aaron, how cool! You took the toaster out! You so need an Star Wars Empire decal on the back of that thing...and paste on the words, "Death Star Prototype"
Nice pictures and scenery. I would be interested in seeing where you went.

SCRubicon...do you really think you would have the luxury of sleeping in the shed if you brought home another jeep? I was thinking, from what you said, that the bunk of that stack-on camper, away from the nice warm shed, would be more like it. :D Funny thing is I would be in the shed too if I brought home another thing to drive.

I want to, just not in the cards lately. I am trying for the Nov 1 trip still, Meet n' Greet is now out :(

I am sure there will come a time when I don't get to get out. I was jonesing last weekend after not having been out since our Stockers run.
