I am waiting for my 185 pictures to download to Photobucket.

Carnage report:

Pathrat- bashed rear bumper, dented underside of the front bumper (Tye, that diff leak is just huge now :D)
Nay- wheel hub cover in pieces and a somewhat mangled rim
Tye his his back bumper too, but like Nay, they are steel so it was all good.
Brody did neat stunts.
More on the formal write up with pics.

Not to worry. Like Tye told us today, "It's ok! Just useless metal parts." :D

Hey, Mountain Thunder and RMH, fellow FJC owners, can I get clips for the bumper wing or do I just need to get a new wing?
Thanks!

Path, let me know if/when a steelie bumper comes in and I will help with the install. :o Tye, map pocket, my bad. Pete, thanks for helping me with my not so good attempts to spot Path and Tye up the chutes. Mr. Wells' friend, thanks for the confidence boost in my already not so good spotting attempts.:thunb: (sarcasm) Nay, good to wheel with you and excellent suggestion on the Coyote Cantina. Besides for feeling a little like a one man wrecking crew, thanks for the great day out ladies and gentlemen.

The best pic I took all day. Look at Tye's face

Not sure if you could get the clips from Toyota or not, if you could I bet they be ridiculous in price I know the wings are and it's almost better to just replace the whole bumper and go aftermarket after bashing the wings a couple of times.

Let me ask around though and see if someone may have a set locally who have gone aftermarket, I gave my front away as soon as it came off otherwise I would send them to you.

On the OCG run we had an interesting brush with a famous author of small notoriety but well known within our circles. Late in the day Steve was spotting Tye up the chutes. It was about the start of Tye’s 2nd attempt that Charles Wells, author of the well known Fun Treks Guides like Guide to Colorado Back Roads and 4 Wheel Drive Trails, walked up the obstacle with his spotter. They took a seat at the top of the chutes. After Tye’s third attempt the spotter started giving advice to Steve about how to bring Tye up. Charles Wells chimed in with “You should listen to him he is one of the best spotters in the world.” Well Steve rolled his eyes said he was not aware of that and went back to spotting Tye up the hill. Well, to Steve’s credit, his plan for getting Tye up was pretty much the same as the advice he was getting anyway. Soon Tye was up.

Later back at the trail head while airing up, a Jeep pulled up near us with Fun Trek advertising on the side. Charles got out of the Jeep and Pete started talking to him and so we all soon found out whom he was. Then Charles came over and apologized to Steve for trying to tell him how to spot, but his spotter really was very good. We all had a good laugh that Steve had dismissed advice from Charles Wells’ spotter, and I suggested to Charles that next time he just say “I am Charles Wells and you should listen to this man.”

We all had a good laugh. Also, as a useful bit of information, if anyone has a Fun Trek guidebook that pages are falling out of (Pathrat has one like that and so does Tye), Charles said you can call them and they will send you a new book no matter when you bought yours. www.funtreks.com (http://www.funtreks.com/)

Here are a few pictures that I took from this fine (weather, people and trail) run. I am going to try to clean up my photobucket stuff so that it shows pictures of this run only, but, if I don't, you might have to wade through pictures of the last three or four runs to see them.

And you will have to wade through all the pictures as it seems all the pictures got dumped into the same album. Anyway, all the last bunch of runs are there: Ladies Run, Slaughterhouse, Wheeler, etc.

On the way out of the trail, and on the road back home I was telling Tye some of the stuff Statler and Waldorf, err Charles Wells and his best spotter in the world were saying while he was on The Chutes. All smack talk... He did apologize for his a-hole spotter friend. But, I wasn't impressed with Mr. Wells at all. Here's why. In the parking area after the run we talked briefly about the trail. I mentioned the Whale's Tail (also known as "The Waterfall") and The Chutes (sometimes called "The Pinch") and he had no clue what I was talking about... His actual response, "Are we talking about this trail? I can't quite place where those obstacles are." Before we were done chatting I said, "Rover guys take a lot of crap" to which he cocked his head, gave me a toothy grin and rolled his eyes. I don't want any replacement books - just reimbursement for my and everybody else's wasted fuel because of his directions  Anyhow, here's a link to my pics and some that Tye took of Pathrat on the Whale's Tail. I really enjoyed using Tye's camera yesterday, I think it is time for an upgrade...

First, Captain Chaos, points for the reference to the old guys in the balcony on The Muppet Show...LMAO in real time.

Things break and fall off and get dented on trails, just the way it goes. If I want a reason to get an upgrade on parts, I will organize a run down to OCG. Tye, lesson learned: Watch My Spotter! All the spotters did the everything they could to help out, so thank you. I think my pedal control was off all dang day. And I don't know what I was thinking on that curve where Brody shot me with my tire so high in the air. That said, what a trail to test rig and driver! I was tested and I think the limits are in sight. I found it pretty challenging and it was a good day.
I particularly like social side stories generated by this run. SCRubicon dismissing the old guys and asking me if I was feeling somewhat homicidal or if I knew anything about voodoo dolls, Tye and some kind of brown bricks that had to do with chewing gum, not his butt end in the air so high, Brody walking up big giant rocks with a grin bigger than the rocks (LaDawn too!) , Nay and his chagrin when checking out the compressed exhaust pipe (thanks for the strap up!), and Pathrat looking panicked on the chutes...good times man, good times.

Great pictures and some great humor, too! It really was a good run! I thought that the trail was more challenging than when we did it last year even though there was nothing broken on my heap this time.

I don't know what they rate it, but it seems to be about as hard as Spring Creek to me, but easier than Carnage, Boulder...

Speaking of Wells...and trails...I wonder if he knows about the recent closure of Carnage Boulder, the new 'proposed' rock garden there, and the closure of parts of Slaughterhouse and Crow Gulch? I wonder if he knows of the existence of traildamage.com...

That was a blast of a trail and I 'm glad to have finially gotten to do the trail. I am glad we got Steph to trust the spotter and keep her head in the FJ... now we have to work on Hugh and hanging half his body out the window...

I think that the difficulty of the trail should reflect not just the number and type of obstacles, and distance but whether the obstacles have bypasses. I like Nay's example: Kelly Flats is difficult, but those Chutes have a bypass. The ones on OCG are not, therefore in my opinion, OCG should be rated as more difficult.

Brody

In a way it is like climbing ratings. They vary a lot, usually be area. The only thing that doesn't change is the overall difficulty of the hardest move, which is where the rating comes from. Some areas, like Eldorado, have 15-20' of hard climbing in them, with easier climbing on both sides of it. These seem hard because you haven't done hard climbing to get to the harder 'crux. Other areas, like Canyonlands, Red Rocks Nevada, and Yosemite have climbs that start hard and stay that way. These always seem like harder climbs, although the climbs might have the same difficulty rating, simply because of the sustainedness of the climbing.

Other areas rate there climbs by the length of the difficult section. Say a climb has a hard and long section of 5.10c/d in it. One area will rate it 5.10c/d while another will rate it 5.11a, like Devil's Tower. I like this one the best because it reflects a more 'real world' feel to the climb.

Anyway, the same can be said for the 4x trails. Still doesn't make either one especially easy to rate. Throw some snow, mud and crapola weather into the mix and the rating, whether rock climbing or 4xwheeling is going to go out the window....
