The usual: Post if you're going to make and donate a turkey or ten. No chat, save that for the other one. ;)

PLEASE post at least how many you THINK you can bring so I can tally and call the shelter to give them notice about how many to expect +/-.
Count me in for 1 vehicle and 8-10 turkeys.

Have 3 right now, hope to add a couple more. It might be good to supplement the turkeys with other fixings so I have 20 lbs of potatoes too.

Count us in for four turkeys, and some canned goods, just for the delivery and not the run.

I just added this to the calendar. This Sunday at 10am, meet at Pepsi Center and caravan to the Denver Rescue Mission. Anyone interested in doing a run afterwards can talk and decide after the delivery
**Chris, THIS Sunday the 16th?**

I thought the original plan was the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving. That would be the 23rd. I can't make it this Sunday and I still have birds to gather as part of my "flock".

I have four frozen turkeys in my fridge that will not stay frozen until the 23rd. We bought them today so we could do the delivery this Sunday.

I was concerned someone might be in this position, my kids have a large freezer and I can add yours if we can connect somehow.

Chris, we will just donate them to the Arvada food bank. Doesn't really matter who gets the donation as long as people are fed. I will repost if I can go on the 23rd.

I changed the date after Patrolman, who really put this together, said he couldn't make this Sunday. Since he started the idea I think it's important that we honor his schedule.
Secondly, I guess I jumped things rather than hash out the date.

True, not a problem and maybe we can get more to participate with another week to prepare.

Keep posting if you are able to make it. As with some people, no need to do the 4x4 part. The main idea was to contribute to the shelter as a group. Hoping to give a good representation as a group. IF you can't make it, but have turkeys to donate, let me know. I will try to make arrangements to take them myself.

Pepsi Center 10am, which entrance? Is there more than one?
Count all four of us in, again, with four more turkeys.

The 4x4 part is secondary and will be discussed afterwards.
I'll add a couple more turkeys - 5 turkeys for sure + 20 lbs potatoes.

Are the turkeys still what is needed most, or should I contribute more canned good items??
Patrolman
November 20th, 2008, 09:52 AM
Turkeys are always needed most. That is what they struggle for annually. I think they need more than 6,000 turkeys, so that is my primary target each year. See article from last year, I am sure there is more need this year.
http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_7472546
I also collect anything else I can think of. I go through the pantry and find anything that I won't be using. Same with anything in the freezer I won't be using. Also clothes, toys, shoes, jackets, blankets, pots/pans, etc. I guess they take anything except electronics. Turkeys are still the primary focus though.
I figured meet at the Conoco gas station at Pepsi Center? Everyone knows where that is right? If you get off I-25 onto Auraria, it is the very first left into the Pepsi Center. The rest of the facility could be gated off so that is a pretty sure bet.
Not sure that we agreed on a time. Say 9AM at Pepsi Center if nothing else has been agreed to? Sorry again about the confusion of dates. I apparently can't read a calendar.

9ish... 10ish.... I just can't do it before 9. I need time to swing by about 5 stores along the way and purchase additional turkeys. I didn't realize we had agreed on 10. Either one works. If the group prefers one or the other, no prob. I see 1 vote for 9 from Tye.

The majority has it at 9. That gives me 1 hour to get my birds loaded up and down there.
I plan on a general bird "count" on Saturday afternoon just to give the shelter a heads up that we are coming, so if you haven't posted how many you plan to bring, please do so. Even if you forget to post a quantity, they obviously won't turn down good turkeys!

I think that we are at about 45+ birds, 20 pounds of taters, 70 pounds of candy, and other pantry stuff that we collected. My parents will be attending and bringing some turkey and possibly other stuff. Dave got his turkeys to me today and they are in my fridge. Ran out of freezer room so they are starting to defrost for Thursday.
PLEASE make sure that you keep track of whether your birds have been solid frozen or whether you have started defrosting them and let them know when we get there. They likely have different plans for each type. Thanks all!
