Even though I made my best attempt to talk her out of it, Pathrat went and got us a new trail companion. Ok...It was my idea, but it was Pathrat who decided to get her today. Her name is Mini-Moose and she is an 8 year old female black lab mix who seems to love the FJ Cruiser ( but I am sure she will suffer the Ranger in a pinch.) Mini-Moose is just about the most laid back dog I have ever known. I am sure she will be along on the next run. I included some photos. :)

And I thought that Hugh had really done something evil to PO Stephanie...Glad I was mistaken! Labs are great dogs! LaDawn and I are going to be glad to move back to the Englewood house where we have a yard and a fence and can actually have a dog again....

Nah, trails are like bar stools - they don't mix well with babies...

I had a neighbor that upon seeing another neighbor pregnant for the 5th time in 5 years said "Now that you know how they're made isn't time you stopped."

He has a hernia too? I didn't hear that when I talked to you yesterday. What is the story with that?

MiniMoose has a few fatty tumors but they are benign.

He doesnt seem to show any discomfort from it. It maybe just that it hasnt dropped yet, but at 18 mnths I doubt it, and the Vet isnt speculating.
It really doesnt matter, we are gonna do what needs to be done.

OOHHHH! I got my medical terms misunderstood. A hernia in my world is an outpouching of a portion of intestine through the muscle of the abdominal wall so I thought you were telling me Mator had that as well as the undropped doggy chestnut.

That is the way I understand it, too, Pathrat...Hernia is the intestine poking through the ab muscle. Don't know what you call an non dropped testes...just that there is a medical term for it as it happens to people, too. Cryptorchism is the term...had to look it up...(at least I think that it right. There was another term for where a hernia drops into the scrotal sack...) Anyway...problems like this...Man, no wonder dogs spend so much time checking out their junk. They are probably worried sick that something is going to happen out of the blue....

I know I have my own name for that every time I fall in icy water and have to go through that whole process all over again...

Some interesting reading on the subject for both humans and dogs:

The last one is for all of us guys. Seems like we should be checking our junk once a month like they do on the Isle of Wight...:

While I did not watch the video from the Isle of Wight Health Service, those were interesting sites, particularly the dog blog. Ther other hernia I think you are thinking of an is inguinal hernia. The bowel protrudes lower down and can cause a bulge in the scrotum. Obviously this is more a problem for male infants than females.

And yes, check and keep an eye on everything that you find a lump of bump on! I see too many cases of "It will go away on it's own" leading to significant surgery.

Knowing a couple people that found lumps that were cancerous I couldn't agree more. Both are cancer free now but it wasn't pleasant for them to say the least. Also it's important to note that most testicular lumps are not cancer but benign growths but that's a determination a urologist can make, not a hopeful individual.

You are spot on Chris. Most abnormalities, bumps and lumps, are benign. 90% of breast lumps are NOT cancer. However the fear that they are seems to lead people to that big river De-Nial. I tend to be a bit paranoid, as do most of the members of my department. We think everything is a tumor.
