uploading pics from me right now link in a few minutes :)

As far as fun factor, i would give it a 9 out of 10 for now as the "4x4"/"technical rock crawling" sections are going to be expanded on soon so there will be a larger selection of difficulty for vehicles ranging from stock to EXTREME. After talking to the owner, he said we pretty much had free range of the 800 acres and actually found some really fun challenges from natural terrain. Even my stock rig with snow tires was able to do many of the natural selections there, i didnt go on the rocks as i wasnt prepared yet. Overall i think $20 once a month and a full tank of fuel to get there/play/get home is worth it. It might be a good spot to have some fun, test out new addons, or just flex and for those of us who are oncall its about a hour drive to denver, so this will fit in with me being oncall on week out of the month and still have fun. I think its good for family, learning for noobs (me) and just all round fun. It wasnt crowded today maybe a good 20 people if that including our group were there. The only thing is that while wheelin, you do cross paths with the "tracks" and must be careful when crossing as you could enter the path of oncoming racers (dirtbikes, rally, atv etc) the tracks arent clearly marked but are avoidable if needed. I dont think the owner has a problem with anyone going off the beaten path to explore, i just made a mind to not tear it up (donuts spinning ruts etc) We did find a few washouts that were fun to climb, so i think its worth it.

Thanks for the pictures, Randy!!!!!!!!!!!

Those are great! I wish I could've gone!!

Funny seeing the F250 with the huge 'no flex, no wheel travel' springs on it, too. I thought people stopped doing that kinda stuff in the 80s! Did he have the double chrome shocks, double steering stabilizers on it and was he about 5' tall, too??

it was sweet!

The weather was awesome, and we basically had the place to ourselves, a few dirtbikes and quads but they were waaaaay on the other side of the 800 acre park! the only thing i wish was that it had a but more mid range diffuculty obstacles, it was all basically pretty easy or really untryable for most non buggy rigs.

We still tried though, well Joe and Andy tried a really rocky section that you needed at least 35"s and Joe still needed a bit of winching.

My sliders held up great, i'll post a few photos...

They look like the supports on my kids skate board half pipe  that can't be a very stable rig but it sure looks cool.

The red/white one or the orange/white one? Either way they both did great. The red/white had some work done to it... but shoddy so it seemed to have issues. if he would have put another $150 into it..AWESOME.. but he sold it for a Jeep TJ

Doing up those Hi Boy F250s like that was the rage in the 80s. You get major lift and minimum wheel travel. It was all about height. Blazers were another good one for that. This is one of the reasons that Superlift is having some problems getting ahead in this market today with everyone making flexy springs. Whereas they are now doing it, they were big time doing lifts like these for the Fords and Blazers and their springs simply didn't flex....now they are fighting the rep they made then..

I have a picture of a Yota pick up set up like this somewhere that I'll post if I find it again.

Anyway, just google '4x4 trucks of the 1980s' or something similiar and you'll see many of these rigs...usually with 2, 3,or 4 chrome shocks per wheel, dual steering stabilizers, chrome drive shafts, chrome bumpers...oh...did I mention that chrome was big back then, too???

my old next door neighbor had a late 80's toyota called Thumper from bambi. he used to show it at the tri state car show also sat way up in the air . if i remember right it had 44's under it. it was a pretty truck with thumper murals all over it but never see a dirt rd . it was all show . he had alot of $$$ wraped in it and won a lot of trophys but was stiff as board as far as flex was concerned

There are a bunch on this site, which is almost all 4x4 videos. Pretty entertaining stuff, actually...dirt bikes, ATVs, monster trucks, mud bogging, you name it...They have Rover videos, Toyota videos, rock crawling videos, Chevy videos....absolutely huge site. I just stumbled across it this morning....When I came on the site this morning, there was a video of a super lifted and lengthened Chevy Surburban Limo on what looked like 44s....Have fun....

Nice place to visit. I would love to back when there's some mud. I would expect that on a busy day you wouldn't have the ability to go everywhere as we did but there is still a good deal of obsticles to do. We basically stuck to some of the easy to medium spots and had fun doing so. The managment did say they were going to expand on those areas and actually stopped us to get our opinions on what we wanted to see more of. We gave them our 2 cents of course. There is a good deal of very dificult rocks and culverts that we didn't even attempt. Being that I got stuck right out of the gate there we didnt go back through. Again thanks for the winch help.

I could see have a few more rigs there with a little mud spot and a mid day BBQ. Good times.

How about posting up another CORE excursion for later on this Spring, Summer or Fall? Or for Summer and Fall? Maybe we can get a bigger group going and do a fun BBQ like you suggested....

Maybe my work will open up also and I'll actually have some $$ to go there. Like I said, both LaDawn and I want to go, but her real estate stuff is slow and my construction work situation sucks right now. I have $$ for gas for a trail run...sometimes..right now and, like everyone else who is unemployed, am waiting for things to shake loose....

Sounds good to me, a change of pace from all this granite would be fun. I should be moved back down to the Front Range by June. I plan on getting some tube doors and maybe some sliders for my Jeep once I am employed again, so I'll need to get some testing done!! :D

We'll have to get something scheduled. Some mud would make the area more interesting. Any one feel free to post/schedule a calendar entry for a BBQ CORE run in the rainy season (if it comes).

The guy who owns the place is talking about flooding a canyon/ditch that snakes through part of the property. :D We drove it and concur it would be super cool with muddy terrain.

It would be nice to see a more cohesive series of obstacles, but the park will continue to evolve as ruts form and earth movers get creative.

Let us know when you're back in the area and armored up. I like the idea of tube doors alot!

Andy

Check out the videos of the mud pit(s) on the CORE site. They are pretty wild.

Check out Chevy S 10 Blazer tire carriers for the tube doors. $15 apiece at Colorado Auto Parts and they have a slew of them. They fit amost perfectly for the front(I don't know about the rear) doors. You just have to weld on some plates with holes for the hinge mounts and figure out a latch after removing the tire stuff. You can't even buy the tubing this cheap, much less get it bent...and it is pretty stout.

Check out the picture of my rig with the tube doors on it. They are the tire carriers....
