Another thing I do is graphics and design work. Here are a few pictures of the stuff I did awhile back for different people. The Planetary Exchange one is one that I am going to be using on my vacation travel business site when I get that going. It is the only one I did for myself. The rather grim one with the guy with the sword through him was for the CD cover for a Goth band by the same name "A Pleasant Sacrifice"...don't know what happened to them, but they were around here for awhile and played at the Church a couple of times.

Something is really wrong with the picture/picture download/picture placement. I get 'server error' messages every time I try to down load anything from my computer without going all the way through the damn photobucket stuff. It doesn't seem to matter if the format is right or that all the picture files are at or under the 800x800 limit. I just now posted 4 pictures from photobucket, but the same picture shows up twice, but when I try to remove the duplicate picture, it shows that I just have the original 4 that I uploaded to the site, not showing the extra one at all.

I haven't been able to load pictures from my computer for awhile due to the error messages and have to go the long way around using photobucket which I am not real fond of...

Anyway...what's up with the picture business???

BTW, these pictures I didn't even bother resizing, knowing that I was going to have to do the photobucket crap to post them

I thought it was just me since I'm kinda new to this sort of stuff. Yeah, error messages, different pictures load than what's shown, etc... I loaded a small pic for my avatar and it wouldn't accept it. I finally gave up after 4 or 5 tries, Then it appears 4 days later... :bang:

YES! I have had constant problems! Managed to get a couple pics posted after shrinking them, but then the next day it didnt matter how far below the limit I was, nothing would load at all! It used to be I could just take them straight off my camera with no problems, but now I can barelly get anything to load no matter what I do...

Both Fred's and Steve's avatar come and go. I thought that was just you guys changing stuff...guess it isn't...

Yeah, I have been fighting the picture stuff for over a week...sometimes it will load one out of six pictures, still giving me an error message, sometimes two out of six, same error message. Then it won't load any. Then it will load the wrong one...Something is very glitchy, for sure...

Photobucket seems to work, but to me it is a real PITA, especially if you don't want to load stuff into photobucket. It is 3 more steps and that much more time involved just to post some damn pictures to the site when they are already on your computer. This isn't very handy in my book and I do not like stuff (read: people, tools, gear, computers, software, hardware, vehicles, etc., etc.,) that are a PITA.

I have not had any picture issues, but the pics I post I usually put on flickr then post them here, I dont use the galleries here.

It's a database issue, I suspect the database server is having issues and have contacted my hosting company. I'm just getting a timed out type issue today.

What graphics program did you use to create your art?

Poser, Amapi3D, Carrara, Bryce, then some PS work...I have a few more that I use, but these are the quick and dirty ones...

I had the two worlds (Planetary Exchange) one animated, but I can't find the animation. Might be on one of the Macs....took absolutely forever to render, too, even usin a couple of machines with lots of RAM....I want a render farm....

Roland

It is binary code and essentially what computers use to read information and communicate with each other. This particular code was just random stuff from my head...I think that the original title to this was "Cyber Baby" if that helps...

Here are some shots I took yesterday when we went rock climbing at Lily Lake outside of Estes Park yesterday. It is at an area called Jurrasic Park ans has a pretty full range of climbs, none of them longer than 100' or so. We managed to get in around 700' of climbing, which is, for us, a pretty casual day of climbing. Perfect weather, great views and great company. We ended up spending most of the time just catching up as we haven't climbed together for a bit.

The guy I took the photos of is my main climbing partner of 22 years, I taught him to climb when he was 36...he is now the same advanced age as Chris and has 5 grandchildren...

And a couple more:

I missed the killer shot of the big bull elk locking horns. I saw them, turned around, got the camera and they stopped and just looked at me. I managed to get a couple of very fuzzy shots of some of the younger bucks, but, like I said, I missed the 'keeper' shot.

We saw huge herds of both deer and elk every place we looked. Kind of an added bonus to the day. I love being outside...

And here are some others from the archives:

The one of the guy with the beard is taken on a 1100' 5.7 route that my friend CT and I established on Sheeprock, above the Molly Gulch campground in Pike National Forest. I think that we were celebrating his 60th birthday the day of the picture.

The one of the two climbers at the belay is taken at another Pike area, one of the hidden ones, off of North Monument Creek. The climb (crux 5.11) continues up the very steep black water streak just above the climbers.

nice pics brody youve open a whole new world to me. i was wondering how what the difficulty rating is. because i see you say 5.7 or 5.11. what are these numbers?

well the way the rating system was explained to me is that a 5.5 is somewhat like walking on a dirt path or climbing a ladder. and it gets harder from there.
Great pics brody, sorry I missed out.

Rating system explained:

The climbing rating system (used throughout the USA) is based on the Yosemite Decimal System , though actually developed in Taquitz/Suicide Rocks, also in California. It is a 5th class system, where 1st Class would be walking on a sidewalk, getting progressively harder until you start to use ropes, where 5th Class climbing starts.

The grades go from 5.0 up to the current level of 5.15c/d which is that of Olympian athletes. To furthur add confusion to someone not a climber, the grades 5.10 and up get broken down into a, b, c, and d. Thus a 5.10 (also called 5.10-) is a little bit harder than a , say, 5.9+, and a 5.10d is almost, but not quite, a 5.11. It is an open ended system so where someone does something new and hard, he or she grades it and the grade is either confirmed, lowered, or raised by subsequent ascents. 5.10 is generally where the 'hard' grades start.

The angle and the size(or lack of) of the holds are what gives climbing routes the ratings, but the ratings don't take into consideration the protection available. A safely protected 5.9 will feel just that, but take the same climb and have the available (as in cracks or permanent bolt anchors) protection be 25-50' apart, thus giving the leading climber the chance of falling 50-100', and the climbs starts to 'feel' more like a 5.10 just because of the head trip. There are climbs that have no protection at all...Anyway, climbs without a suffix of 'R' or 'X' are generally assumed to be safe, providing that you climb them safely. An 'R' rated climb usually means that you can fall 20 or more feet and stand a good chance of getting hurt. An 'X' rating basically means that if you fall on that particular 'X' section on the climb, you will probably get hurt and/or die. Anyway, you can fall (if you are going up first (leading) twice the distance you are above your last protection, adding the 'sportiness' to rock climbing.

All of the above assumes that you haven't made any terminal mistakes in buckling your harness, setting your protection, tying your knots, etc, and don't do anything really stupid on the climb. This is actually where 90% of all climbings accidents come from...human error...I have (and enjoy) doing roped soloing, where a mechanical device acts as your 'belayer' (the person not on the dumb end of the rope, but is still responsible for catching you with the rope if you fall), including putting up a lot of 'first ascents'(a climb that no one has done before..can be easy or hard). Some of these have been a long way from the car or any kind of help, making the margin for error very small indeed. You tend to get dialed into being very safe doing this, no matter what else is going on around you: lightning, rain, snow, wind, etc....

Ice climbing is rated in a similar fashion, but with many more variables, temperature being the greatest. An ice climb on a warm (freezing temp) day will be much easier than it would be if the temp is near zero as the ice will be softer and not as brittle. We have very brittle ice here in Colorado. Grades for the ice climbs go from Grade1 on up to around Grade 7 or 7+, maybe harder now. Ice protection hasn't progressed as fast as rock protection and is only sort of good. Ice tools have experienced the main part of technology and do not even remotely resemble what I started climbing ice with 'back in the day'. The rating system for mixed (snow/ice/rock, usually done in wintertime) has both a rock and an ice rating, such as the climb I mentioned somewhere earlier on this thread : 5.9+R/X Grade 4

Although I tend to do climbs more or less at my limit (somewhere between 5.10+ and 5.12+, depending on what kind of shape I am in and how much I have been climbing), I really enjoy the sport and climb easy to hard climbs. We have purposefully been putting up 'easier' and well protected climbs in the 5.7 to 5.8 range so that more climbers will have fun. We put up a 5.7 about 6 years ago that is 1100' long and is probably the longest route of it's grade in the state. There are people on it all the time. 90% of all the rock climbers in the world climb 5.10 and under...

Wordy, but I hope this helps...
