22-RE the saga continues...

well today i got my engine running pretty well i can hold 35-40 in 3rd up a hill that i usually had to downshift on. so all in all i'm much happier with one exception: now that i've had a chance to drive it i'm noticing loud ticking noise that seams to be coming from the driver (exhaust) side. i'm not 100% sure but it seams to be. it only occurs when i gas is applied. if i apply the gas VERY slowly it won't do it. any thoughts?

Do you have a cat convert?.. just a thought.. mine does that

I would say exhaust manifold gasket, but the very slowly bit is a little puzzling. I have also had exhaust studs back out on my. Then it goes really loud since a couple of them actually will blow exhaust out if they are missing. Check that all the studs are tight and that there is no leaking around the gasket.

i think i figured it out i'm waiting for the sealant to finish curing. there are block-off plates on my ex manifold. one was bent out a little bit. so i put it in the vise and we'll see how she does tomorrow when i fire her up.
