I just finished up and mailed a very neat/fun Flat Stanley project back to my (2nd) cousin Christian's first grade class in Dallas Pennsylvania. The long and short: Flat Stanley is a book about a kid who gets flattened by a bulletin board one night in his sleep. He survives and makes the best of his altered state and soon he is entering locked rooms by sliding under the door and playing with his younger brother by being used as a kite. Stanley even helps catch some art museum thieves by posing as a painting on the wall. But one special advantage is that Flat Stanley can now visit his friends by being mailed in an envelope. The first graders made their own Flat Stanleys to be mailed. Christian mailed his to me. The point is to have Stanley encounter far off places and take in some of the local culture/activities. So, for the past couple days I tooled around around with Flat Stanley and a camera in my Jeep. This being Colorado I had to include 1800s history, camping and (you guessed it) four-wheeling. Stanley went back to Dallas with maps, tons of pictures, trinkets and Stay The Trail information.
The camping was at Duck Creek off of Guanella Pass.(with Tye) And, the 4-wheeling (the actual wheeling not Stanley's poser shots) was done above Central City.

I remember my days at the old Dallas elementary school. One afternoon we had a special visitor. The Forest Service brought in Woodsy Owl. He handed out Colorado Blue Spruce saplings to every kid in the school. Who would have ever thought that a million years later I'd be living in Colorado?
