Yes, it's in the right forum...really!

I found a replacement engine for our '97 Cherokee. Since there are few years that just drop in, this was a nice find.

Getting it out pretty well sucked with the constant drizzle, but I kept plugging along. I was doing OK, had the engine/tranny/TC out as an assembly, and discovered the star bolts at the top of the bell housing were external. I thought I would need star bits. I brought every lovin' star bit I have... Oops! I now have STAR SOCKETS in my toolbox.

BTW, there is the remainder of a nicely optioned, '98 Cherokee Limited down at Western.

The 12 steps of "4wheeling addiction"

1. You admit you have an addiction.
2. You find a way to feed your addiction.
3. You throw lots of $ at your addiction.
4. You throw more $ at your addiction.
5. You take your addiction out for a trail run, or a thousand...
6. You break the object of your addiction.
7. You throw more $ at your addiction to fix it.
8. You begin talking to other people about their common addiction.
9. You meet those people and begin indulging in your addiction together.
10. Your addiction worsens and you begin craving "stronger stuff".
11. You break more stuff and throw more $ at it.
12. You enjoy your addiction til the day you die, or figure out what the 12 step process is for getting rid of this addiction, lol.

Or is it a two step process for getting rid of the "4wheeling addiction"?

1. You get married.
2. She says NO.

LMAO

It has been hectic this week. Tuesday after work I went back to Western with more tools, this little gem got-r-done!

By the time you drive the extractor home, the bolt pretty much just spins out.

I made up a stand so I can move it around easily:

Back to work, I need to make up for three rainy days when I couldn't get anything done.

I finally got the engine on a stand this week. I pulled the covers to find a clean machine. :)

Under the valve cover I saw cast instead of sludge:

The bottom end was closer to what I expected. The cam lobes were nice and shiny, no scores, pits or spalls. I need to clean my wrenches before taking more stuff off:

Since the engine dolly was freed up, I used it to make more room around the place. I think It has proved it's worth. LOL

Nice find on the engine. That one looks like someone took care of it.

I'll be happy to see you get this thing up and going and on the trail! Then you can give me a hard time on the trail instead of at a BBQ:D

Just kiddin...
