View Full Version : Trac Bar Brace

I got motivated today after work and decided to build a trac bar brace for the XJ. I'm running the TnT Customs tracbar and bracket that I modified and re-drilled to eliminate bumpsteer. I've noticed that the frame side bracket can flex a little durring hard steering and I figured I'd better beef it up.

I've seen these on a couple rigs and liked the idea. I made a plate that bolts to the passenger side where the trac bar would bolt on a RH drive vehicle and made a bracket that would bolt on and match the 2 mounting holes on my tracbar bracket. Then I used some 1" HREW 11Ga. tube with a little bend to clear the oil pan to connect the 2 brackets.

Trac Bar end with 2 holes, one was the origional and the lower is where I re-drilled for bumpsteer.

Installed on the XJ, just needs some paint.

I haven't tested it yet but it should clear the tracbar and steering when the front flexes. We'll see on OCG this weekend.

The frame bracket may still twist.
Maybe the bracket itself needs to be made more stout with gussets on the outside from the top of the mounting point to the frame down to the pivot of the trac bar. If there is room.

Hope this works anyway. I would address the issue to the Manufacturer.

I noticed a big difference on my way home, the steering felt way more solid.

The bracket itself is made with 1/4" and is pretty stout, I'm not too worried about it twisting but a gusset down the outside would help too. There's more stress on mine than the manufacturer intended since the new hole I drilled is about 7/8" lower than the original one.

Thanks for the input, I'll see if there is enough room for that gusset!
