I think I speak for everyone in saying we had a good day today; Barb & myself, Pete & LaDawn, Brian & Sylma, Jay & his son, Charles, and Rob. First time meeting most of you which I always enjoy. No drama, a couple of yanks were needed but that's expected & some fun water crossings. Great trails and good people. :thunb:

Also good to meet Mike (WJJEEPER) for a few minutes before we left the trailhead where he stayed with his family.

Pics to follow, I hope because I forgot my camera and my batteries died in the spare I keep in the truck so I only got a few.

Yes, it was a great (and long) day -- 6.5 hours on the trail by my count. Here's a pic airing down at the trailhead.

Here's my album,

I'm a notoriously bad photographer.

At the big water crossing, I was getting what would have been a great video of Chris taking the lead but 5 seconds after his tires touched the water the SD card on my camera was full.

This was the toughest trail I've done so far. I aired down to 20 PSI and the traction on my normally-pathetic Goodyear SR-A all-terrains was surprisingly good even in the wet conditions (lots of water crossing). Ride was much softer too. However, it felt like I lost an inch or more in ground clearance; I banged the underside and rock-rails pretty good a few times.

Hopefully someone got better pictures than mine and some video too.

Pete gave me batteries for my truck camera and by the time I got them in I think you were the only one I got pics of during the water crossing. I'll see tomorrow.

You did real well especially with those street tires and being towards the back, we had pretty wet conditions more often than not.

I saw your pictures CFR and I am looking forward to more...I definitely want to see the water crossings. I am interested in this trail, looks fun.

Charlie...if this was the hardest trail that you had even run, you sure fooled me and LaDawn. I kept asking Rob if you needed a spot because it didn't look like you ever did. You picked the best line damn near every time! I would've had no idea if you hadn't mentioned it...

Stephanie...you would have enjoyed it! It is certainly not the atypical Colorado trail with all the many and varied water crossings. Later on, the widflowers are going crazy. We have run this trail many times and last year ran it just before it closed with about 12" (or more) of snow on it and everything iced over...pretty cool. All the water in the smaller pond/puddles was way deeper than what I had ever seen it, but the actual lake crossing was shallower...go figure...

We need to keep an eye out on craigslist for someone selling a used TJ(??..anyway, Brian's Jeep) 3-4" lift. Just PM him if you see one..he is in the market...

Another great run and great to put faces to names once again. It was a real pleasure meeting the folks that we hadn't met before! I know that this trail was a bit of a challenge for quite a few of the folks, but everyone drove it exceptionally well. The only preoblems anyone experienced were more due to some people having stock tires and little lift...not the drivers..., but that proved only a minor detriment....

Here are a bunch of my pictures:

More yet. I think there were a total of 12-14 water crossings where the water was fairly deep.

And more...like I said...a great time and very pretty

The silly 'flex' shot of my heap is probably the biggest rock we found...and I had to drive out of the way to tag it...silly boy...oh well...

Looks like you all had a great time. It is a fun trail for sure. So you guys turned around at the wide stream crossing at the top with the walk way?

Was there much traffic?

You know that rock was calling your name Pete. LOL.

Brody

Nope, we didn't turn around. The deepest water crossing pictures were of the 'lake' crossing at the top. We came down the Beaver Reservoir way and no one had an issue with the crossing, though the water was way up over the door sills on some rigs...and almost up to the headlights on the yellow(Brian and Sylma's) Jeep, though I did miss that shot..

There was actually a fair amount of traffic, mainly in the form of a lot of Jeeps that we let pass us. We thought that there were probably 2-3 groups in this bunch as there were about 20 rigs overall...We ducked past them when they stopped for lunch after the lake crossing...

I really wanted to go on this trail. Now that I see all the water, I really am sad to have not gone.

Can someone add these two trails to the Trails Information section? That way any information from this thread is saved for future runs and easily accessible.

Thanks
Aaron

Get in line pal!

We had a load of stuff we had to do this last weekend, after being gone on vacation for two weekends in a row, plus we are out all day this coming Saturday with a trail clean up and a night out. Had friends over between errands though, so it was all good. So, more info that you need I suppose, but we were out DO-ing stuff :)

For a DO kind of guy you sure didn't DO this one. ;)

Something about being "too tired" as I recall. Like you other folks have good reasons. Besides, if everyone showed up on a run it would take a week to get it done.

I made it back for dinner with my wife and kids at Texas Roadhouse in Longmont by 6PM (yum). However, I'd seriously under-estimated the time on the trail. I was thinking 3 hours and told my wife that (Wells says 4-5, but I didn't check that until the drive up). It was really about 6.5. Oops.

Hmmmm -- you know I will be kidless this Saturday after 10am or kidless all day sunday. I will be in longmont for the 10am drop-off. MSV/coney is close to longmont.

You know...should we post a last minute trip on the calendar?
