I mentioned this else where but figure it's worth its own thread. Anybody familiar with these?

Nope but I need to find a better one for my Lowrance ExpeditionC model.

I've recommended the Colorado map for Garmin several times.

Each time, that person is excited but they never get back to me to report how it worked, if they liked it, or what.

I have a Lowrance XOG GPS so I can't use the Colorado map directly. I've been meaning to use GPSbabel to attempt to convert it for Lowrance but haven't taken the time to try.

For now, I've downloaded the GPS waypoints for Charles Wells' books from his funtreks.com site and I supplement those with GPS tracks from traildamage.com (using GPSbabel to convert them to the Lowrance format so I can stick them on my GPS SD card).

I have the FunTreks waypoints but don't understand why they can't be named before distributing. I found they're good if you name them as you get to them but that kind of defeats the purpose for me.

I'll have to get a SD card and try loading them. Is there any SD better than another?

For GPS, probably not because the data rates are likely to be low. Just make sure you get something that's compatible with your unit (read the manual). Mine, for example, cannot work with cards larger than 2 GB.

For cameras/video cameras, the SD HC (high capacity, high speed) are pretty good as they're big (8 GB for my digital video cam; small already by today's standards) and fast (xfers to the computer are much faster). For digital cameras, response time on the writes to the SD card can limit how fast you can take successive pictures. Hit the FAQs on the camera sites if you're more interested in that (I'm not; Just told you about all I know.)

I've been playing with this today, very cool. I've been able to find everywhere I've been looking for in the Henry Mtns, Utah including geographic locations and campsites. It doesn't have the trails labelled but they show up just fine. So far so good, now to get it all loaded on my Garmin.

I've been using this for about a year now. I really like it for the type of exploring I do. The only thing I don't like about it is that sometimes it shows trails that don't exist anymore and sometimes shows drainages as a trail. It also shows the names of particular trail obstacles. I also like the price (free). I have a couple of friends that are giving up their high dollar none-Garmin GPS just so that they can use this program (only works on Garmin format).
