Beef Basin

Anyone familiar with Beef Basin in Utah? We're taking the freeway to Hanksville, Utah then heading into the Henry Mtns, Mt Helen to be precise. We then want to head through Beef Basin to Moab. We did the reverse a year ago but I didn't pay much attention to the details so would like to hear from anyone who has first-hand info to help jog my memory.

Not specifically familiar with Beef Basin, but been through Hanksville down to Hite. What a great paved road! If you are already there and have some time, I would make the drive. No need to even leave the pavement. It is already the road less travelled!

I like the highway to Hanksville/Hite but still too traveled. I'm slowly dredging stuff up from my memory and may just wing it as I usually do but my female companion aren't real comfortable with that. :lol:

As I recall so far we're taking Bull Creek Pass out of Hanksville into the Henry Mtns to Mt Ellen where we'll spend the first night. Then we head into Beef Basin and somehow find our way to Elephant Hill in Moab 4 days later.

As you head down from I-70 towards Hanksville you pass by Goblin Valley as well as The Maze. Both cool places to visit if you have never been!

I remember being unable to pass up Goblin Valley and doubt I would know The Maze from Beef Basin.

When you get to Goblin Valley on the right on Highway 24, keep going about 100 yards more on 24 and the entrance to the Maze is on the left. There is a single road that accesses several different areas. Maze and Horseshoe Canyon I think. It is about 45 miles of dirt road just to get to the Maze.

Patrolman is right on that. The Maze is on the east, Beef Basin is on the west, right? I got lost in Beef Basin so I can't tell you where things are. Bridger Jack Mesa is one of the landmarks. Sorry, I am of no help on this one, even though I have been. :o

I understand that Path, I was there a year ago and just didn't pay attention. I've pretty much figured it out now thanks to the free topo software mentioned elsewhere.
