I have a friend coming from Texas, bringing his wife for a long weekend the first week of October for her birthday. They've been to Denver and Estes Park and know both areas, I've recommended they stay along 550, specifically Ouray, Silverton or Telluride.

Anyone have any bed and breakfast type places in any of those towns they would recommend? I have never stayed out there (well, in a tent...) and would like to pass along some ideas.

Thanks!

I don't know how much these are at this time of year but in July, on our motorcycle trips, we stay here for a 4 day weekend. With 4 couples, it worked out to $50 a couple a night for a 3 bedroom, 4 bath, sleeper couch in the living room, condo. Cheaper than everyone getting their own room at the podunk motel.

Here's the link, http://www.alpenglowouray.com/

Wow, nice place, but that is VERY expensive for just a couple.

My family and I stayed at Telluride Mountain lodge, it's really swanky but actually pretty affordable in the off season. I think we had a junior suite in the middle of summer for like 130-140/night. It's at the mountain at Telluride, beautiful views, and you can ride the gondola over to town which my kids loved. It's a bit out of the way you mentioned but I wanted to throw out a good review. You have to watch the sales tax in Telluride, it's like 18%, we bought two small coffees and it was 5 bucks after tax.

Oh dear lord. That's an insane sales tax! Might steer them to staying in Ouray or Silverton.

I think they are trying to stay near Durango ish or do colorado springs. I'm REALLY trying to get them not to go to the springs. They are looking for a relaxing mountain vacation without much touristy stuff. Why they though the springs would be a good idea I don't know.

No offense to you guys in the springs! It's just a big city, not a small mountain town.

Woodland Park would be nice if they can't do Durango. There is a lot to see in the Springs but by no means is it a small mountain getaway. Seriously just google and call hotels down in the Durango area, I am sure there are deals to be had right now
