Yesterday started out by getting less than 3 hours sleep before going to work and then faced with a super slow night that seemed like it would never end. By the time I got home from work I was so tired I felt like I was going to just colapse. I know we have all been thru that before. Anyway I knew I had too much to do for the day before I could lay down and so I imeditately got started, first pay the bills (if that doesn't add to the sleepyness) then get some work done on the 9" before heading out to pick up the tubing for Stephs new bumper build. And somewhere in between make time to grab a bite to eat, then hopefully off to bed by 2pm.

As one might expect it went nothing according to plan, LOL. I got the call from Pete about the materials for Stephanies bumper and all, so a little jocking of plans worked it all out, so I thought. Then out in the garage go started building the new truss sytem for the 9" and while in the process my DeWalt 4-1/2 grinder died, Ok so i have a back up grinder and will check that one out later no biggie.

Stephanie called to meet up about the bumper which was cool, we finally met and she seems like an awesome lady. Then back to work on the 9" and I get to a point to stop for some breakfast and get side tracked to put the roof rack back on the truck. While in the process of this I get another call, its Pete, needing a helping hand. This is cool as I am at a good point to stop for the day in the garage and am getting set to make the run for materails in the general direction where Pete is ( I will let Pete tell what happened there).

So upon my arrival I am amazed at Pete's predictiment and we figure out how to take care of the problem for the time being. After getting Pete back to his house, I realise I have not had anything to eat since 11pm the night before and it is already going 2-2:30 pm so I will stop somewhere and get some good ol greasy fast food. Then down for Stephanies materials.
NO GO on this idea, truck does not want to start, turn the key and absolutely nothing period! Hey Pete, I got a problem, well we checked the battery and the terminals I just cleaned 4 days prior are corroding again. Take care of that issue and then the starter relay just chatters, looking deeper we decide to try and jump it. Nope did nothing more, we thought well lets do the ol screw driver trick with the solenoid, Darn can not even get to it. Pete brings out the trusty charger and its on full charge for 15-20 minutes and still no start. By this time its like 3 or so, so I call the warranty company and they tell me to call roadside assistance, cool. A tow truck is on its way!

Tow truck driver walks up and ask what going on with it, explain situation and tells me to hold on, ok whats he going to do I wonder. He comes back with a power supply in hand hooks it up tells me try and start it. D*mn thing starts on the first crank, WHAT THE? Pete and I just look at each other! He did nothing different than we did. Ends up 1 year old battery was shot. Guy calls back to office to see if they have the battery I need and sure do w/72 month warranty I say go for it! 10 minutes later office calls back no go on battery but they have one w/ 85 month warranty he do for the same price. 20 minutes late twomore guys show up to change out the battery with the new Intersate battery, job done in 20 minutes tops and I am heading for home. Total cost was $104 and loss of 3 hours sleep because its now going on 5pm. With Pete being the good guy he is, he helped out a lot trying to figure it out and even ran after some chow for us knowing I had not eaten for 16 hrs which is really bad for my hypogluacemia.

End result I got a new battery, ate one meal today, and still did not make down to pick up the materials needed for Stephanies bumper, which will happen 1st thing Monday now and less than 3 hrs sleep before work tonight. If anyone needs some towing or roadside assistance definitely call the people over at Reds Towing they are good folks. Well off to work again for another fun night LOL.:thunb:

from a fellow night shift worker I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL! I have only been working nights since May and it's kicking my ass. seams if i try to get something done I get caught up with and don't get to sleep until way too late or else i just don't get things done. hoping to get working at least on swings soon then i can get back to having some sort of life again.

Yeah, I was driving back from this small job going west on I70. I see a big puff of smoke out the side mirror and the engine stalls. I manage to drift over to the side of the road and a few minutes later, creep past the entry ramp and park it. I get out and there is oil everywhere, down both sides of the truck and all over the engine compartment and underneath the rig. I check the engine oil...not a drop...and I had just topped off all of our rigs yesterday...ooops

I give Sean a call as he is closest to me and he said he would help get me back to the house. He gets out there and we hook up a strap and start the slow drive back to my house. When he turns on Federal, my steering wheel for no reason locks over to the right forcing me into the nearest driveway and causing Sean to stop! Never had that happen before, but a hard yank on the wheel got it loose. I managed to get the engine started with Sean towing me and it souned like a bucket full of scrap metal being rolled down the street...

I am sure I have a hole in the side of the block somewhere, but didn't look as we were dealing with issues with Sean's rig..

Thanks Sean!!

Second Toyota that I have had in the 7 or 8 (or more) that I have owned over the years that I actually lost an engine on. Something just got worn down to the point where is didn't want to work anymore and, oil or no oil, simply let go. My guess is that it was either a rod or main bearing, but they way the engine sounds now, there isn't a machined surface left in it. The other Yota that trashed an engine spun a main bearing and CTS bought this from me. This is the one I saw the other day at Yoda Jims with over 350K on the odometer...Didn't have any $$ when that happened and ended up driving a Bronco II for awhile...

I haven't taken the engine splash pan off to get a good look, but I imagine I am going to find a good sized hole in the block. Nothing else I know of will dump the oil out of an engine faster than that.

And as good as the venerable 22R/RE engines are, Colorado with all the passes and hills that you take in 3rd gear at 4500 rpm takes it's toll on the little 4 bangers.

I did have an 84 4Runner with the same carbed 22R engine in it that sucked the air cleaner bolt into a cylinder. That was more or less a fluke and the one on mine is now thoroughly loc tighted in. I managed to get a good used 22RE engine from a Celica or Corona or something from Yota Yard for $500 and had the swap and 4Runner up and running in a day. Nice easy swap with plenty of room to work. Two crappy hard to get to bolts on top of the bell housing, but that is all...

I need to clean the rest of the engine compartment anyway and by simply removing the engine, it gives me lots of room to do this:lol:

Hey Sean, when I'm working mids, if you're needing some chow, just give me a call. My number is on Stalkernet (aka employee locator). If you can get ahold of a crew schedule, I am now working on Delta Crew, so I start mids next week.

Thanks Kyle, I am still lost to your guy's scheduling Alpha-Delta crew hours, we just do 1st,2nd,3rd shifts.

I have been doing mids for the last seven years and am pretty much wore out on it and looking at switching to swing shift but do not want to lose 3% of my pay plus I hate rotating days off! Right now I have steady days off which makes it have some sort of sense of normality!.

Pete whenever you are ready to switch out the motor I give you a hand on it.
