So for the past year or 2 whenever I put my LC in 4wd, it always takes a great deal of work to get it to come out. So on ih8mud I found a thread about someone having a similar problem and they posted their solution to it. I followed their steps pretty much exactly...now, there's no problem switching in and out of 4wd.
1. Order the valve (dad did this, cost like $23)

2. Found the faulty valve (red one)

3. Shave the lip off the outter edge of the solenoid to match the old one.

4. File down the metal bracket to fit in the original place

5. Replace the new solenoid in the existing spot and bolt back onto the firewall.

6. Connect the hoses back, start car, test it out....works flawlessly

I would have done a more in depth review of this but the best way is to just look at

Good to see it was something on the easier side of things and not super costly too. Good Job!

Thanks for the write up and the link to the IH8MUD thread! It all helps to build the information level available on this forum!
What I want to know...and I keep the engine compartment and the underside of my heap pretty damn clean..is how you keep your hands so clean? All I have to do is to start thinking about turning wrenches, even sitting in the house at the table, and I have grease and dirt on my hands. LaDawn says that I am like Pig Pen (the Charlie Brown dude, not the guy that used to play with the Grateful Dead..see note) and dirt simply gravitates to me.....
Note:
Ronald C. "Pigpen" McKernan (September 8 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/September_8), 1945 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1945) – March 8 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_8), 1973 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973)) was a founding member of the band the Grateful Dead (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grateful_Dead). His musical (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Musician) contributions to the Grateful Dead included vocals (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vocals), Hammond organ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hammond_organ), harmonica (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harmonica), percussion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Percussion_instrument), and occasionally guitar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guitar). He died at the age of 27 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/27_Club).
And I was only a Grateful Dead fan for about their first 2 albums...after that, their music pretty much sucked. Like the story goes: There were these two guys at a Grateful Dead concert who ran out of dope part way through the concert. One of them looks at the other one and says "Man, you know this band really sucks...."

First off, those are my dad's hands in the pictures, but secondly...the valve assembly is probably 3-4 inches underneath the hood right on the firewall so it's got lots of stuff blocking it from dirt and mud, etc. And although my firewall looks pretty dusty, it's really just caked on dirt :erm:

Hey I have all of my old solenoids still in my truck, as far as I know they still work, so if you need anymore ever just shoot me a PM and I can send them your way! (I swapped out the old vacuum powered Transfer and went whe way of the older model Split case.
