View Full Version : What is with the lack of posted runs?

I know that our financial situation precludes doing much wheeling or we would certainly be posting more runs, but everybody can't be in the same boat we are in!

What is up with no runs posted for the rest of this month and only the Nov 1st run and a Moab trip posted before Christmas? Everybody simply tired of wheeling, too much stuff broken or does everyone think the season stopped at Labor Day?

Hell, if we had at least one steady income in the house, we would be posting and going on runs every week, at least one day.

Just curious as it seems kind of strange....

As you noticed I removed the side pics for this reason. I hate to see a big black where upcoming runs are posted. Maybe the recent cold weather made everyone go into hiding until Spring.

I'm waiting for other people to post a run for a change. I'll be in Arizona for a couple days later in the month, but I'm almost always up for wheeling if I'm not working. I think I've been out every weekend for at least the last 8 or more weekends, some of which were both days. Pretty fun.

I've been working on a few side jobs after work. Last weekend was free but it felt good to do nothing for a while.

Well, we 'wheeled' a Toyota Yaris, a car not really known for it's off road abilities, everywhere the 4x tours, Jeeps and a big Dutch DAF went when we were on Aruba. Didn't even air down...had too little ground clearance to begin with. It was also the dirtiest car in the lot when we returned it....

I did here that they had pretty much stopped renting Jeeps in Utah due to the condition some of them were returned in....no surprise there..

Still, Pete, when you get done tomorrow and have given the 40 4.5 inches of lift and a clean bill of health, I'll post up an inaugural run for the rig and see if anyone wants to see if I can manage some old-school wheeling with no locker, no Atrac, no ABS, no computers and rattles and hums built up over 27 years of life. I'll post in the trail run planning section to see if there's any interest.

RIR! Rob's Inaugural Run! I'm up for it but you have to be fast because we need to give the kids a day this weekend we'll watch their kids.

Actually sounds like fun! Want to drag an 84 Yota that doesn't have any of this and is currently lacking an engine?

You are going to lose some rattles and hums with all the new poly bushings and a new u joint for the front shaft I bet...

I'll post another 'feeler' next time I get out. My 7-month-old keeps me close to home. Most of my recent runs have been half-days in the local area. Should be wicked fun once we have a couple feet of snow. Sometimes I go up just to pull out all the folks who think their 4x4 with bald road tires is invincible....

everybody can't be in the same boat we are in!

I am. Even though me & my wife has what's considered steady jobs, we're sucking hind tit. She got her hours per week cut down to 28 from 40+. I work commission & it's fallen off considerably. I made 13k less in '08 than in '07 & year to date now is 8k less than this time last year. My wife made 9k less in '08 than she did in '07 & her year to date this year is 4k less than last year.

We used up all of our savings we had so now I'm usually spending my weekday evenings until about midnight & weekends doing side work just to make ends meet............no extra $$ now. Let me tell ya, it's not easy on this 46 year old body crawling around under cars in the driveway as it used to be when I was in my 20's. I don't like it but I have to do it.

That's my reason why I haven't been on any runs in a while. When a side job presents itself, keeping a roof over our heads & our bellies full is more important to me than going wheeling. I would like to go on the snow run on the 1st but if a money making opportunity comes up, I'll need to make money instead of spending it.

Example............Right now I'm sitting at work with nothing to work on (so I'm not making money) so I have time to post here.

I'd let you be a Grammar Nazi on my posts, so I could learn from my mistakes. What is your per error rate? :D

Depending on what day you do your relatively mild inaugural run, I am interested. I believe I had mentioned somewhere before that I would go on that ride.

Ah, so this is what Chris was referring to. I'll give you the first one free (or is it "for free?")

I tend to hyphenate compound adjectives, though most stylebooks give leeway as long as the meaning is clear. So I would hyphenate per-error rate, which is clearer to me.

Sometimes you have to hyphenate for clarity. For example, what's the difference between a small business owner and a small-business owner?

If I get bored some night, I'll dig up a list of sentences I've saved over the years that contain some kind of error. But I saved only the ones where a typo or misplaced modifier or dangling participle (not a double entendre) or homophone changed the meaning of the sentence, usually in a humorous way. Might not be much interest in that, though. It's a word nerd thing.

HA...try having a 58 year old, very heavily used and abused body, with many, many accumulated sports type injuries...

You're still young. I don't wanna hear it:D

Work/job situations suck all around, I think. I personally don't know anyone who is doing well financially....I just consider myself lucky to have work when I have it! I get a steady job, it is going to a long time before a complaint comes out of my mouth1

My head is so far up my own arse....

OK, so is mine. That's why I've been doing mostly local (El Paso county) half-day runs.

Is your avatar from metal masher? I think I posted (http://www.whitescarver.com/albums/Moab07/IMG_00387.sized.jpg) a picture of my rig in the same spot.

If you can't make Chinaman's (http://www.whitescarver.com/gallery/ChinamansGulch/CIMG1460_1) (l-o-o-o-n-g day), A half day at Eagle Rock is a great compromise. Some great winter wheelin' is coming up in the Rampart area. :D

How about we post a list of trails to run before the season ends (outside of snow runs) and see how many we can schedule?

Yeah..Dave said it here. I guess those of us that can afford to go will, those that can't will drool...

Well for myself winter time is BUILD time. :thunb: time to go and freeze out in the barn for hours on end. blasting the diesel heater to dry paint or heat metal up enough so that i can weld. putting on 15 layers of clothes just to lay on the ground and still be cold grabbing everything steel. then once i get it all together theres enough snow on the ground to go out for a "test" run and get stuck for 14 hours. yup it's winter time!!! :D Don't worry i'll be sure to let you know when the test run is pete!

It's been a while since I have been out, but that is due to everyday busy life, family, moving, not getting my contract renewed from the post office, and having to start a new job and move to Castle Rock recently. So I have been just too busy with crap. I am hoping to make the Nov 1st snow run, but only time will tell. I also have some work to do on the jeep as well before I take it out again so who know. keep the fingers crossed that I get out and have some fun SOON!

So Im not the only one in this forum that has had a $ challenge with $2100 / month child support alone over the last year..I have a 19 year finance career..I must say it has been difficult finding stable work over the last 10 months.

My M1009 needs a rear CV driveshaft which is big $$ so it is out of commision for a while. I won't have the $$ to lift/SAS the burb for a few months so I can't do anything too hardcore. My last option would be to put plates on my race truck and take it wheeling...

Was my post deleted? I thought I had said something about it not really being a financial issue if you're rig ain't broke. Maybe I'm smokin' crack?....

In any case, I'm broke as a joke, but have been trying to get out at least once a month. My last trip to Eagle Rock cost me about 10 bux in gas.

I may post a China wall run once we get enough snow.
