As much as I like Monster.....that's so stupid....it doesn't even really infringe on their trademark

Sad to hear but it has the ability to give Monster some real bad PR which might just work. They may decide to kill the idea as a result. Think of the recent news story about the chubby baby denied insurance, the bad press got that decision changed in no time at all.

Sorry, the fine people over at Monster Energy drinks have decided that Rock Art Brewery's use of the word monster in their "Vermonster" brew is in some way infringement on their product and are taking him to court for it.

Maybe Monster.com should sue these a-holes since they were established well before they were.

I am following this as Vermont is where I am from. I have a friend that is in the Brewmasters Guild in Vermont and says this guy is a straight shooter and hard worker. I like that my local liquor stores in Vermont have already boycotted the Monster product because of this. Make me feel good about my home and the people there.

The owner is right in saying its the principle of the matter. I am a man of principle too and i will stand against anything that defies principle. I hope he comes through with no problems. I am tired of big corporations trying to get away with crap cause they have deep pockets like he said...

I love the internet! Google "Monster drinks boycott" and you get 1,140,000 results.

I bet that number's going to grow quickly! Prediction: Monster will back down.

Rockstar was proven in individual tests to provide no advantage whatsoever over a soda like mountain dew. 5-hour Energy has done me well on long road trips and stuff like that.
Also, I've often wondered what battery acid tastes like. LOL

they should do a study to see if beer is better for you then an energy drink just to show how bad it is for you to drink those things. but even then i would still drink one every now and then but it isnt gonna be a monster even if they back down im still not gonna buy monsters any more that kind of crap makes me sick . california can just sink for all i care there in debt up there neck but yet theyve got all these greedy corperations and lots of filthy rich people and no one is supposed to think that they might have some budgeting issues yeah right i dont feel sorry for them. its only the citizens that really suffer and i feel for. the kind of people that do this kind of thing need to disappear a billion dollar corperation and its still not enough for most rich people its never enough its like being rich isnt enough they have to compeate to be the richest and they seem to think life is a competition or something.

greenramp

brings up other subjects. I like beer. enough said there. and I don't mix liquor as it wasn't meant to be mixed. straight for me thank you. taste shcmaste, there is only one reason to drink liquor (in my mind) and taste is just an amenity in that equation.

Ok, now I'm just waiting for the Rock Art Brewery to gain more success and turn around and sue someone else for trademark infringement in a few years.

I guess since I wrote Monster, I got this today from them:

Hansen Beverage Company and Rock Art Brewery
Reach Trademark Agreement
October 26, 2009

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hansen Beverage Company and Rock Art Brewery today issued the following statement in connection with a recent trademark issue:

Hansen Beverage Company and Rock Art Brewery have reached an amicable agreement under which both companies' respective products will be protected - Hansen's Monster Energy® line of energy drinks and Rock Art's Vermonster beer products.

> Rodney Sacks, Hansen's chief executive officer, said: "We are pleased that we were able to resolve this matter expeditiously and put the concerns that had arisen behind us so that both parties can concentrate on their day-to-day businesses, selling their respective high-quality products. Our intent in this matter was simply to protect Hansen's trademarks and prevent any likelihood of confusion arising in the future through potential product extensions and was not to prevent Rock Art Brewery from selling their Vermonster beer."

> Matt Nadeau, owner of Rock Art Brewery, said: "Once Rodney and I were able to talk to each other we quickly appreciated each other's points of view and he acted reasonably, which allowed us to rapidly come to an agreement we are both happy with and allows both of us to move forward positively."

yeah i go the same email. i told the they should have thought about the consequences of pushing around the little man first before threatening litigation. Maybe rock art was trying to protect their name and product... they are a bunch of asshats and i also told them i still will never buy their products ever again.

 Yeah I responded pretty much the same just now and added TOO LATE, the bad taste of Monster is in my mouth, the only thing that will wash it away is Vermonster.

I also told them maybe Pixar should sue their asses for use of the word Monster, since they laid claim to it with Monsters Inc. way before they did.
